Profile: I'm involved in the Hardcore Breaks scene and seem to be buying most of the releases. Still follow Drum & Bass and am a fan of Old Skool Hardcore. However its not just about Hardcore dance music as I also listen to & collect a whole range of music including Classical, Jazz, Electronica, Rock, House, Trance, Hip Hop. Only genres I'm not keen on are Metal & R&B and even then there are a few exceptions.

DJ Zinc - 138 Trek - 10-Oct-07 02:33 AM
In fact there was about a five year gap between the height of the Jungle craze and 138 Trek. As Drum & Bass emerged from the Jungle scene the breaks had settled into less complicated breakbeat loops rather than the crazy patterns found in Jungle.
DJ Zinc had produced a series of very successful Drum & Bass tracks through the second half of the 90's. On his Beats by Design EP he attempted to produce a lower tempo Drum & Bass track with the result being '138 Trek'. While it is a Breaks track it proved to be hugely popular with the UK Garage scene. As a result it was given this single release.
Portal (2) - Vol. 5 - 03-Oct-07 02:55 AM
Contary to the images due to a mix up at the pressing plant the label actually mistakenly calls the AA side 'Shining In The Ectasy' (the title of an as yet unreleased track).
The tracks themselves are typical of the '2FX sound'. Uplifting Piano and stab sounds and based around a sped up House accapella. Both tracks sit around the 140BPM tempo and make good crossover tracks between Breaks and Hardcore Breaks. Highly recommended as they get a great reaction on the dancefloor!
Cut & Run (2) - Don't Go - 18-Sep-07 07:37 AM
The Cut & Run take on Awesome 3 'Don't Go'.
The A-side is an uptempo Breaks version of the Rave classic. Unlike a lot of Breaks remixes it doesn't just use a familiar breakdown or intro section with a completely different bassline. Instead its really an update of the original keeping the stab section & vocal, a similar bassline and a new breakbeat. One nice addition is the 'Kicks Like A Mule' sample from the Kicks Like A Mule Remix. This bootleg remix being at a higher tempo (about 140 bpm) is fast enough to fit into a Hardcore Breaks set where the vocal, stab section and breakbeat should fit right in.
The B-side is a Drum & Bass remix and isn't a lot of interest. The only connection it has with Awesome 3 'Don't Go' is the 'Kicks Like A Mule' sample. Other than that its just another Drum & Bass track.
2FX Records - 13-Sep-07 03:15 AM
2FX Records: Home of Uplifting Hardcore Breaks
For Hardcore Breaks it doesn't get anymore uplifting than the tracks put together by Portal and Junki Munki. Most of the tracks are based around a female vocal (often taken from an old House track)and a hands in the air piano break. The tracks tend to be at the lower end of the tempo range of Hardcore Breaks giving them crossover potential with Breaks tracks (like Slipmatt's Rave Breaks) and Old Skool Hardcore.
Probably won't appeal to fans of dark & dirty Hardcore fans but always gets a good response on the dancefloor!
Those Two DJs - For A Dirty Angel - 09-Jul-07 12:36 PM
This track might be an attempt to cash in on the escalating value of Alien Eye 'Found A Cafe' but to give it credit its a pretty good track in its own right. It uses the same 'Found A Lover' vocal and 'For An Angel' synths but with a darker and heavier bassline. The 2 Bad Mice breakbeat has been replaced by a simpler drum beat. From a mixing perspective the mix/pressing is a bit on the bassy side so it can be difficult to get the level set correctly.
