Humanoid - Your Body Robotic - 30-Oct-08 09:08 AM
Middling collection of mixes of Humanoids seminal 88 cut, Stakker Humanoid.

For every mix that genuinely brings something new to the table, there are at least 2 that go nowhere or waste potential. On the second pile is the Feadz 07 mix which is a total waste of space and Graham Massey's version of Stakker which also squanders the source material (Though his version of Body Electric is largely good).

In fact it doesn't get going till the end of disc 1, with the Pirate Robot Midget mix a credible version and both of the
Peel sessions being ace. Slam especially, as it drops the rap entirely and builds it around the acid line and adds a french vocal to the mix.

Disc 2 has largely better mixes, DXU:555 Tx Tracker and Mystery Artists both being very good and the Sub Osc mix being interesting due to messing with the classic vocal and adding dark synths to the mix.

I would, have preferred the Snowman Mix to be on here and the removal of the middling Cry Baby, which always turns up on humanoid albums.

Overall not bad, but could do with editing some of these mixes.

Freddie Mercury - Love Kills - 10-Sep-08 07:56 AM
Lovely Synth pop / disco this. Not usually a fan of Freddy Mercury, as most of his Queen stuff is overblown and overrated.
I think it has to do with this being a collaboration with Giorgio Moroder that makes this a real cracker, Fred's voice fits perfectly with Moroders sublime disco. The B side omits Freddy altogether, giving you an instrumental version of Love Kills, which, in my mind is all the weaker for it.

Rude 66 - The Strings Of Death E.P. - 27-May-08 08:26 AM
Proper, decent electro here. The main track here is the awesome
Break the Silence, tough synth pop style electo with vocoder vocals and synths, a real winner and worth getting for this track alone. The other strong track on this is the utterly odd, Message from heaven. Its basically made up with a Bible evangelist talking about God and the year 2000, white noise and crazy effects, including what sounds like Dr Who's Tardis. The other two are good but don't match up to Break the Silence and Message from Heaven.

Clone Classic Cuts - 08-Mar-08 07:04 AM
This offshoot from Clone is turning out to be very good label indeed. The basic principle, reissuing old Italo and House tracks from long ago is a very neat idea indeed, giving those people unlucky enough to miss them the first time round, a chance to hear the best tracks that 80's House and Italo disco had to offer.
Whether you want Italo disco, Acid House, or Electro, Clone Classic Cuts have it covered. And with constant surprises to the line up of tracks (Oppenheimer Analysis anyone) theres always something unexpected to catch your ear.

Flemming Dalum - Dance Of The Obscure Robot - 08-Jan-08 08:27 AM
An incredible Italo mix cd from Flemming Dalum. The mixing on here is so seamless, with several tracks flowing into one another and before long you're lost in the music. Favourite tracks on here are, Walter Gate Call Me Love, a real heavily accented vocal Italo track, and the final track Games We Played In The Past by Grey Cat, although picking just one track out of such a good line up is tricky. All in all, a good primer in just what Italo Disco is.
