I really only collect records I personally think are 4/5 or 5/5 ratings... The few in my collection that I have rated 3 or lower I would consider trading or selling

Boogie Boys - City Life / A Fly Girl - 03-Oct-08 07:48 PM
Im surprised you dont hear more old school DJs spin this record. City Life is decent but easily forgettable. The gem here is A Fly Girl. Taking a break from Sly Foxs Lets Go All The Way, the beat on this track is fierce. An effect that sounds like metal scraping together gives the track a bit of an abrasive edge found on few hip hop records. Tough and raw... highly recommended!
Lush - 16-Feb-07 01:37 AM
Although few would probably agree with me, I think that under Robin Guthries guidance as producer the members of Lush were able to achieve a superior sound to Guthries own pioneering Cocteau Twins. They took the interesting but sometimes tedious "swirliness" of sound from the Cocteau Twins and put it into memorable pop songs. Instead of just copying the "shoegazer" sound of the day like their contemporaries, Lush crafted quality unique heartfelt tunes that have stood up to the test of time. To me Lush is one of the most under-rated bands of the last twenty-five years; the album "Spooky" is as close to perfection as a rock album can get. Although their final album Lovelife was more pop oriented than their previous work, the group never released a bad album. It is indeed a tragedy that Chris Aclands suicide shattered this brillant quartet.
DJ Andy Smith - 26-May-05 09:34 AM
Andy Smiths CDs are a fun listen, but they dont do his live skills real justice. Ive seen him DJ twice, and each time he rocked the house rapidly cuttin and mixin trip hop, rap, soul, metal, new wave, 12"s, 45s, LPs, you name it. Big Beat as a genre now has a filthy name (in most cases for good reason), but this guy truly represents everything that was good about that movement.
Smith & Mighty - Big World Small World - 18-Apr-05 12:54 AM
This was the first release I picked up from Smith & Mighty. I was listening to a lot of Massive Attack at the time and a friend of mine said I should check out Big World Small World. I was completely blown away. This is probably one of my top three all-time favorite trip-hop albums. It has smooth, sometimes light, sometimes dark sounds woven throughout, and the vocalists compliment the music perfectly. I later checked out older and newer albums from these guys, and I hate to say it, but none came even close to this release. I guess that is why when people talk about trip-hop its usually Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, etc., but rarely do you hear much about Smith & Mighty. Even though the group may not have been consistently great, Big World Small World by far makes up for it. This is a masterpiece.
Nitzer Ebb - Godhead - 06-Apr-05 02:42 AM
All the mixes of Godhead, and for that matter the song itself, I could do without, but the last two tracks on this single are the best live Nitzer Ebb recordings I have heard. The medley of Let Your Body Learn and Murderous is simply killer; when the song breaks down to just a slammin beat and they drop in murderous... WOW... What I would give to have been at that show...
