Silicon Dream - Marcello The Mastroianni - 20-Aug-06 08:40 AM
After a chart success of Offs "Electrica Salsa" 1986 single release, a new project named Silicon Dream and their single "Marcello The Mastroianni" was released in 1987. Its amazing rip off of the original release, using the same bassline from "Electrica Salsa" throughout the track, having satire-way made new vocal elements in the way of Sven Väths original scats of the original release in it, etc. Symbolizes a good way the rise of sampler era and sampling technique in the music business.
Flexx (2) - Love Theme From Flexxy-Ball (You'll Never Change No More) - 06-Jan-06 03:47 AM
This release would fit the genre, and definitely is among the italo freaks, classic italo disco. Nevetheless, its just an excellent piece of early 80s italo disco history.
Electro ballad a like song with strong vocals sung by one of the finest italo disco voices, Fred Ventura, telling the story, told millions of times, and giving a mans point of view regarding an heartache, will, difference and a need.
I love the arrangement of the song. Its epic, full journey, like a song mixing from ballad to another synthetic dimension.
Thats exactly what italo is all about. You can always expect surprises and miracles, personal mental explosion.
At the end of the song it just goes wild, Fred Ventura has done his vocal job and has left the building, leaving space for synthesizers to create a spacey atmospheric world of italo disco arpeggiators.
I just love it. Its excellent.
B.M.E. - BME Project - 29-Dec-05 08:10 AM
One of the best examples of ultra fine, superior Garage House production Rheji Burrell is known for. Great vocal arrangements, stylish rather minimal instrumentation and production guarantee that you cant go wrong with release like this.
Top notch!
Herbie Goins - Scrap Rap - 29-Dec-05 05:19 AM
There was Joe Bataan in America doing his rap disco boogie "Rap-O-Clap" thing in the late 70s and later on, as going was getting tougher, Blowfly came up in the early 80s with his straight x-rated "Rapp Dirty" boogie thing.
In Europe, and to be exact, in Italy Herbie Goins did as well his thing in 1983 and released along with the production team of Grop a fine disco boogie single named "Scrap Rap".
You can feel all the basic disco elements here, including percussions, basslines and wah-wah guitars. Its been all copied from the standards of early 80s disco music, reproduced (played, arranged and produced) and adding that Italian flavour to it: synthesizer solos, subtle arpeggiator bassline going through between the parts, Italian "ooo-ah ooo-ah" vocal chorus (due to limitations for pronounce proper and correct English), etc.
Nevertheless, its no crap that Scrap Rap.
Armando - I Need U - 22-Dec-05 06:09 AM
This particular Armando release samples Soft House Companys early italo house classic "What You Need" (released on Italian Irma Records) and in addition Loleatta Holloways vocals.
Quite rough sample based production and poor vinyl quality (thanks to Larry Shermans tactics on saving some bucks by pressing vinyl from the mixture of old overstocks vinyl and tennis sneakers sole) sure gives this release a pure Chicago status.
