When - Whenever - 16-May-08 05:27 PM
Weird compositions from this artist. You got some Middle Eastern-type music in one track, then some African tribal music in another; also blends of haunting/playful melodies in the midst; some soothing enigmatic vocal samples too in "Some Apocalypses" - only to be immensely disturbed by distorted shrieks from Lars in the first section of the 14-minute odyssey. Gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. ... This is a fantastic album; all songs are eccentric, and the lyrics are excellent. Definitely a recommendation for persons interested in experimental musique.
Demented Are Go - Hellbilly Storm - 21-Feb-08 04:53 PM
Definitely not one of the best Psychobilly albums out there, but still pretty decent. When I first bought this, I was expecting something really cool (this was my first listen to DAG) based on some reviews I've read on their previous records, but after finishing listening to it for the first time, I was pretty disappointed. So I put it on the shelf and didn't listen to it for a while. I gave it another shot and ended up enjoying it slightly more than the first time around... so probably not recommended for everyone, just for fans of this band. Standout tracks are: first 3 tracks, and 13.
Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine - Two-Song Sampler - 08-May-07 01:57 AM
These two songs were good enough to spark an interest in buying the album, but I still haven't... I procrastinate too much. These songs still have that Arch Enemy sound, which I like. Great vocals, and basically great everything. It isn't boring at all. The only step left is to buy the full album! And hopefully I won't be disappointed when I pop it in my CD player.
Snow Patrol - Final Straw - 15-Jan-07 11:52 PM
The only reason I bought this album was because I really, really liked the song “Spitting Games.” It was immensely relevant to my life at the time; nearly every line in the lyric was sort of like a narration of my life (however lame that might sound). And so I bought the album. The rest of the songs are alright; they mostly deal with relationships and stuff like that, which usually bores me. Also, there’s this certain sound that it has, and every time I reach out to get it from my shelf I always go, “Nah… something else.” And there are often times where I just stare at it and wonder to myself why I still have it. I mean, maybe if the booklet had lyrics it would be more enticing, but it doesn’t; all the booklet has are photographs and liner notes – nothing too interesting. These songs are… just songs… mostly about relationships, and the only song I truly like is “Spitting Games.” Though it isn’t a terrible album (there are some good songs), it’s just not that great.
Children Of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet? - 16-Nov-06 01:54 AM
Hmmm... I remember reading on their website that this record was by far their favorite. WHAT?!! First of all this is leaning towards a total collapse of originality. What makes this record so great? Nothing! Sure there are some...well actually just one cool guitar solo. Never mind. There is nothing great about "Are You Dead Yet?" The lyrics are complete shite, and the vocals are muddy. If I recall correctly, Alexi dropped out of school to pursue a life as a guitarist; and it shows! But his lyrics suck ass. And the music is cheesy; it might be good at a show, but it's at its utmost peak of monstrous lameness. I'm actually thinking about selling my copy 'cause I rarely ever listen to it. I'm sure nu-metal dorks will like it!
