Seba & Paradox - Red Tears / Fire Like This - 24-May-08 10:08 AM
Red Tears is a nice enough atmospheric DnB tune but the reason I bought this 12" was because of Fire Like This. Although this track does have that more modern polished sound of todays DnB it also has a definite Old-Skool Jungle flava about it. This is a quality dark ruff steppa with a simple but wicked bassline but what really makes this tune great is the exceptional drum programming. You expect nothing less from Seba & Paradox in that department of course but they really nail it on this one. Simply put this tune absolutely rocks it and does so cheese free and without getting too harsh in the process. Ok, the 'Fire Like This' vocal sample has been used a fair few times before but it works well. Make no mistake this track is meant for the dancefloor and is obviously not the most innovative or groundbreaking electronic music around but it's more creative than 99% of the junk released in the DnB scene these days and frankly it also makes 99% of Dubstep sound lame in comparison. It's a shame there's not more producers making DnB of this quality but I suppose that's what makes Seba & Paradox special. Respect.
Underground Resistance - World 2 World - 23-May-08 07:57 AM
Amazon and Jupiter Jazz are undoubtedly fantastic tracks and are often considered the best tracks on this brilliant record but I feel a special mention should also be made for Greater Than Yourself. This is a divine tune imho with a lovely tranquil vibe about it that is kind of reminiscent of Mr.Fingers. The track just sort of floats along with a really warm melody and beautiful atmospherics and the use of the female vocal snippet really tops it off wonderfully. Everytime I play this track it truly transports me to some kind of otherworldly utopia and just puts my mind at ease. Greater than yourself may actually be my favourite track on this great ep but's that's no easy choice and along with the classic A side tracks this truly is a 5/5 record for me.
