Radio Crew, The - Breaking And Entering - 12-May-05 03:46 AM
Electro funk does not get any better than this: sick beats made out of incredibly raw percussion sounds (check out the handclaps on Egyptian Lovers Theme), simple little synth hooks done on crude crude synths, heavy bass and some great scratching and vocal cut-ups - nothing complicated, but the end result is amazing.
The repressing is pretty good (clean sounding), and though no-ones claimed responsibility, the labelling is very similar to the Lone Records logo.
Funki Porcini - The Ultimately Empty Million Pounds - 30-May-04 10:40 AM
An aptly titled album - I hope for his sake he actually made the million pounds, since the decline evident between the sublime Hed Phone Sex and this is disturbing. Soulless.
Yabby You - Jesus Dread 1972 - 1977 - 12-Nov-03 10:46 AM
One of the most crucial B compilations, if also one of the most obsessive - no less than five versions of Jah Vengeance, for instance, follow the original at the close of the first CD. This is one reason why its so great though - few other collections give you the chance to see rhythms evolving into so many amazingly diverse and subtle new forms, especially in Tubbys hands. Dillingers version of the Vengeance rhythm, Freshly, is probably the deepest bit of dub Tubby ever produced, absolute genius and well worth the admission price by itself.
