Code 071 - A London Sumtin' - 26-May-09 11:38 AM
I bought it for "A London Sumtin" but love it for "Oxygen".
I was really lucky on this one. Was stuck between 200 house records along with the second edition of the first 4 Hero Album "In Rough Territory".
Everyone knows ALS and loves it for its rasta vocals, deep bassline and breaks.
But everyone should take a listen to Oxygen. A repeated vocal, bleeps and noises and a weird break gives me goosebumps everytime i put it on my turntables.

Special K - Soundcheck - 05-Apr-09 12:15 PM
The B-side of this, is one of these tunes that make you say "WTF?!". Im not quite sure if Special K tried to take a piss of Jungle and DnB records with this release.

Side A is a good jungle tune with repeated vocals that say "soundcheck". The string/pad sample sounds exactly like the one from the Simpsons intro, but Im not quite sure about it. Breaks sound good and loud, and the bass is pumping! A decent jungle tune!

But the B side will surely make you drop your jaw. Think Kenny G style smooth jazz meets drum and bass. Put on some rave crowd noises and you got a tune so bad... its good! Really! If he made this as a parody on jazznbass, he did a great job! I think thats why it is a TP and never made it to a full release. (Or maybe some problems with the samples?!)

Worth the £4 if you want to have a laugh.

DJ Trax - Tomorrows New Dawn - 01-Nov-08 07:16 AM
I love this record. I know many might have bought it for the Commix remix, but the original is probably one of those hidden D gems of the late 2000s D scene.
Why? Because it isnt fu***ng dancefloor fooder for the kids, but a song. YEAH, A SONG. Some might argue its a paradigm that D is geared for the dancefloor and anything outside the box is NOT D, but thats wrong.

The A side starts with a laidback but still fierce break around 80bpm with a deep bass hit followed by a nice melody. Then the vocals kick in: "You dont have to take what lifes got for ya/dont just sit back in your seat, yeah" What a great line. When the break sets his 160+bpm drumfunk pace its just pure bliss.

A great great SONG (in the sense of song!)

The B side is great, too. Commix as usual, deep bass, but nothing too exciting. They use the vocal sporadically, which gives it a nice deep D feel.

Dont sleep on this, you can get it pretty easily and if you love drumfunk and D you will love this.

Rufige Kru - Aptitude Vol 3 - 30-Sep-08 10:43 AM
Biggest scam ever. 1000 were pressed? Yet none of it showed up in shops and I asked in a lot. Hell, I managed to get releases with 250 copies with more ease.

Nice way to treat lovers of the whole series and supporters of Exit records since release number one.

I loved the first aptitude and Clonk was awesome, but then every one said "Oh s**t, this is Goldie AND COMMIX!" and jumped the bandwagon. Some managed to get it, the same people that didnt even wanted to touch Exit stuff before. Most of these said this is a decent release, but hell, I will get shitloads of money trying to sell it.

Never found a copy, that wasnt unreasonably priced.

Release itself is awesome. Nice minimal roller with "Is this real" vocal running throughout the track.

Various - Old School Rave Sessions - 01-May-08 09:15 AM
I bought two others of the series and was dissapointed, as they were mixed or edited versions to keep them at radio length. And when I got this i was like Meh...
But, I was surprised! Full Versions! Love that. Sure, its another of those countless revival CDs which try to cash in a tons of money (?), but if you search for a few breakbeat gems you wont be dissapointed! It should say breakbeat/protojungle session as most of the tracks are blueprint tracks for Jungle/Drum & Bass. Youve got Engery Flash, Mentasm and The Vamp as the source material. And stuff like Acens Optikonfusion (without the well known sample) and Part 1 of the Trip II the Moon saga as those tunes that brought high speed breakbeats into fashion. Some Reinforced and Shut Up and Dance and some more housey tunes. A great package that keeps you smiling for two hours!

If you still cant get enough of some oldskool fix you should get it, as it is pretty cheap and Im sure you can get it at every bigger shop in town. If you are new to DnB or just a youngster you should get this too, as it is a great chance to learn a bit about the roots of jungle and DnB.
