Mike Oldfield - Islands - 16-Dec-05 05:41 AM
By producing this record, Mike Oldfield created an album for every taste in music. You like his older (instrumental) works in the tradition of "Tubuar Bells" or "Crises"? Listen to "The Wind Chimes". You like to listen to his popsongs? No problem, take the B-side. Even choosing from male or female vocals is possible. Although "Islands" has not the same power or musical inspiration like the early Mike-Oldfiled-records, it is still one of my favourites. There are not many records as well-balanced as this one. And Bonnie Tyler's voice is outstanding!
Plastic Boy - Live Another Life - 05-Sep-05 11:03 PM
This record was something like a light at the end of a tunnel to me. Released between the closing Lightning Records and the founding Banshee Worx, it showed that there was no reason for my fear of loosing M.I.K.E. and his ideas as a supply of good progressive trance music.
Both tracks are typical "Plastic-Boy-Songs". The A-side is a classical trance tune, no lyrics, but a catchy melody in a well thought-out arrangement. "Nighthawks" is a little bit more techno-style, walving the melody.
Mellow Trax - Techno Vibes - 20-Aug-05 03:41 AM
After his big club hit "phuture vibes" , it seems that Mellow Trax had to release an album without having time to think about it. The result was someting like: If you know one track, you know all tracks. The intro is followed by eleven songs contructed and orchestrated the same way. Disappointing.
