Lee Perry - Guitar Boogie Dub - 10-Sep-09 12:01 PM
Rhino Records credit this as a a Lee Perry production when in fact it is Carl Harveys Ecstasy of Mankind. Harvey was recruited to record the album in 1977 by producer Bunny Lee. Lee never released the album himself. Without his or Harveys knowledge it came out in England in 1979 on the Cancer label and was misrepresented as a Lee Perry album called Guitar Boogie Dub.
In 2005, almost 30 years after its creation, Harveys work finally received official release through the French label Makasound.

Aphex Twin - Run Jeremy's Window Licker - 13-Nov-08 01:12 PM
Mr. Anders Trentemøller has done EVERYTHING WRONG with this remix / regurgitation. What little good there is in this release comes from the original Aphex track; all that Mr.Trentemøllerr has managed to do is to re-edit Windowlicker in the most dull way possible; yes you can clap along to it down at your local supermarket / dancefloor but this is electronicas equivalent of Joe Dolces "Shaddup-a-your-face". It retains NONE of the original sparkle that made Windowlicker so fresh. 5/5? hahahahaha! ...And the point of side B is what exactly?

Reagenz - Reagenz - 29-May-08 02:21 AM
Jonah Sharp and David Moufang bring the most AWESOME and stunningly sublime ambience to Reflective Records.
Im not a great fan of ambient music but this record just finds its way inside you in a way that is hard to describe. I dont feel that anything I could write here would do it justice except to say that IMHO it easily ranks amongst the very best of what I have heard (Global Communication, Biosphere etc...) These tracks are availble on CD but Id get it on vinyl. Simply beautiful.

Maleem Mahmoud Ghania with Pharoah Sanders - The Trance Of Seven Colors - 26-Mar-08 07:09 AM
This is trance music of the highest order from master Gnawa musicians of Morocco. The Gnawa are descendants of Fulani, Peul and Bambara slaves and other more recent migrants from West Africa.

The language used in the trance music alternates between Arabic and Bambara; the purpose of the music is to alter the mental state of the participants in order to heal and/or purify.

The Gnawa have always incorporated music from outside sources into their own. On this release the purity of sound and conviction of intent that is integral to Pharoahs playing allows him to seemlessly offer melodies into the Gnawa ritual context.

If you come across this release, ignore what others rate it as and just buy it! This music has some of the fastest, most precise and subtle percussion you will hear anywhere. Wonderful, timeless music; guaranteed rump-shaker and highly recommended.
