Villalobos* - Alcachofa Aug 18, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
I have never been able to grasp this music speak, talking of analogue this, metropolitan that. I'll say it as it is. This LP still reveals unknown pleasures everytime I listen to it. It is harmonic; it has character; it has that hard to find quality that many record producers seek to find... It is an LP where its whole is as good as the best of its individual parts. So either listen to Alcachofa in part or in entirety you will be surprised and entertained everytime. Well done Mr. Villalobos.
Todd Bodine - Different Engines Nov 05, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
I believe this release to be the strongest so far on City Sport. Every track features distinctive, energetic minimal house that I find perfect for 'upping' or 'calming' a mix whilst playing techno, house or electro. In my opinion a brilliant release and may Todd Bodine produce more releases like this!
Double X - Strain One's Ears Jul 29, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
This release starts of with a restrained montage of loops, atmospheric and haunting. The lull before the storm...

Kowalski's career in recent years has blossomed into an international tribal commodity but with this team work collaboration, involving Litschko, he shows depth, not only in music but also in his ability to fuse with other individuals and their ideas.

Merit also has to be thrown to Mr. Litschko. You done good.

Absolute quality music techno enjoyment.
I bought 'Back to Prison' 13 years ago and I seem to be making a habit of checking whether I like it every 6 years! Six years ago I must admit I didn't like it. But having just listened to it now I think it was a very brave and far reaching production. By no means an out and out classic but the styles show great vision and longevity. 'Let it Rip' contains soulful vocals and minimal percussion; 'Are Scared' and 'Version' have undertones definately in the location of Michigan; and 'Rubbadubb' is real good funky percussion. At last, after 13 years, this release has grown on me; not my favourite record but, at the moment, one of the most enigmatic!
LFO - Sheath Sep 18, 2003
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Mum - Charged; Slow, jerky and funky; .................. LFO - Samey?
N-O. This is classic LFO. I could not stand it when people critisised LFO for being 'samey', being one hit wonders or being...
I bought their first release LFO-LFO the first day it was released and as a keen follower of LFO this selection is sometimes a blast from the past and always a revelation.

I love this record. There was a lot of pressure for LFO to come up with something to rival LFO. How could they? It's like Orbital coming up with another Chime! It wasn't going to happen but what did pleased me. At that time techno had gone through the 'bleep' stage and this (as well as Sweet Exorcist's 'Clonk') signaled the (Oh I can't think of another word for it!) CLONK phase. And off it clonks: #We are the true creators; We're Back!
We'll never know whether it was Sweet Exorcist or LFO who came up with the 'clonk' sound (I would say Sweet Exorcist but I'm always open to opinion) but I love this example of it.
And just to add "New Age" is one of the most powerful tracks I've ever heard! It is monoliphic!

LFO - LFO Aug 15, 2003
I have this but in the very original format. The cover is plain, purple and the label also purple with the same white writing. I remember Warp continued with this format up until 'Tricky Disco' and then started with decorative designs again by Designers Republic. They pulled all the existing Purple covers and replaced with... Enough! LFO is the epitome of warehouse music - raw, original and addictive. A rival to Orbital's Chime as track of the generation and I fondly remember both as being absolute belters!
L......F.......O....... Duuuuuuuuurrrrrrr Deeeee Deee Da!
I bought this in 1991 totally by accident but it has proved to be timeless. A wonderful record... I am just rooting through my records to find it... Bah, I have too many and I can't find it just now! The A side is cool, nice and funky in an industrial, detroit style, 'I Wanna tell' is really funky and cool (I can just hear it now, over the Plastikman I'm currently listening to!) and 'It's me' is much the same. I love this record and it was made to last - my copy is about 2 milimetres thick!
