Plug - Drum 'n' Bass For Papa + Plug EP's 1, 2 & 3 - 09-Dec-05 02:54 PM
Junglists dont fear, this album is plenty heavy on the amen breaks... not so often looped as tastefully chopped and edited. Check out drum & bass for papa, feelings and a subtle blend for example. Strangely, years later these are still particularly resonant tunes for me from an album of favourites. Also on the EPs, youll find plenty of even more heavily edited amens in military jazz and cheesy (amen mix) [though Im not sure about that last one...] nuff amen presha for ya?
Bad Company UK* - Shot Down On Safari - 08-Jul-03 05:52 PM
FYI: If shopping online, you may want to look into finding a Japanese/American release of this album as the second disc is a best of )EIB( sort of thing with many of their big tracks rinsed together with some of the floor-killers from Safari. Includes: Mo Fire (BC rmx), Dogs on the Moon, The Nine, The Pulse, Hornet, Nitrous, Planet Dust, Ladies of Spain, Breathe & Four Days. There are 21 tracks which is quite an improvement on the straight album-track-mix which features regularly. Check it out, it looks mighty fine & includes alternate artwork. K@
Cujo - Adventures In Foam - 05-Jul-03 07:20 PM
This album is sublime, but then any comment I post anywhere regarding the works of Mr. Tobin will read similarly, as he has the midas touch more than any other producer in my (humble) opinion. This album serves also as an excellent prelude to further exploration of his work, as he seems only to delve deeper into to audio experimentaion with each subsequent release! Easily the most accessible of his releases most likely due to its age & his experience in production at the time. Having distinct leanings toward drum & bass & classic old skool (jazz) breaks almost makes it an easier (and possibly more frequent) listener than his later outings & the extra tracks* included here are tasty morsels for the avid fan. Excellent, an album which any Ninja Tune fan will revel in & those with a penchant for jazzier breakbeats will do much the same I imagine. Get it now.
* Originally adventures was released on Shadow recordings without many of the tracks included here (the method, ol bunkhouse, on the track, the sequel) and the vinyl does not include all original cd tracks. Thankfully the whole thang in all its glory can be found on the Ninja Tune 2-cd re-release version & not surprisingly is well worth investigating! K@
Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch - Bust It Up / The Gift - 05-Jul-03 06:53 PM
Not a bad piece this one, from one of ds many smaller labels & definitely aimed at those nasty black-hoodie-wearing darkside fans. On the A-side a rather familiar cinematic loop tweaks the ear courtesy of the Psycho score & leads to a nasty drop with headfuck bass filters & a pounding break. And basically, the flip is quite simply more of the same - minus the Psycho loop. Very much worth it, if purely for the dancefloor recognition of the Psycho loop!
Bad Company - Book Of The Bad Volume 2 - 30-Jun-03 03:00 PM
Best to keep it short & simple methinks, I feel this is the best of the book series, purely because of one track: Ladies of Spain. This tune is one of Bad Companys finest moments in my opinion, rivalling The Nine & the infamous Planet Dust for sheer dancefloor terrorism. From trancey (Jim Morrison!?) spoken-word-sample beginnings to the heights of pounding, driving techstep it gives an excellent cross section of Bad Companys influences & the broadness of their often pigeon-holed style. Elsewhere on the ep? Dogs on the Moon funks (like crazy), Grunge is... well, grungey!? Basically it all finely represents this particular era of BCs continuing evolution. Buy it for Ladies, I love it.
