Bernard Badie - Time Reveals - 27-May-08 06:13 PM
Ok... So you want an overrated record here's the one that comes out the best besides of the AJ Sound on Decay Records.

Truly, this carries 1! decent track which sounds like a leftover demo from Larry Heard which he did in a lousy hotel room agonized with pains of hungover from cheap Russian vodka.

What makes this record valuable is a mystery to me and shelling out more than 15 euros for a mint copy is a crime...

Money talks, bullshit walks!

Ce Ce Peniston - Finally - 04-Feb-08 05:46 PM
Ce Ce Peniston penned the lyrics to Finally during a school lesson and the rest is history. Based on Ce Ce Rogers Garage classic "Someday", this song took the charts by storm in 1991. David Morales honed his production skills and proved why he deserved his status as remixer/producer of 1991 alongside Steve Hurley. Where Hurley got stuck with his distinctive 2-3 elements, Morales managed to base his take on remixing on lasting vocal efforts and independant dub versions that stood out as more than 3 deck mixing fodder. The track itself is a brilliant example of a cute song containing hope, wanting and youthful love. This is from an era where House Music lyrics had a deeper textual meaning thus the reason of it standing the test of time.

Kevin Saunderson - History Elevate 2 - 27-Dec-07 06:36 PM
After several months of waiting after hearing Joris Voorn's remix, the vinyl hit the streets. Much debating has been caused whether he managed to do something good with his efforts or it was a waste of time and money.

To me, Joris did exactly what a remix should do - a personal take on a now longtime classic adding his own fine production skills, touch and furthermore creating a "sound of now" reflection that contrary to most productions floating around will be play- and listenable several years from now.
What strikes me as being a fine tuned sense for arrangement, is the way Voorn introduces the original lead theme with ease in the last third of the track making the euphoria complete. Rather than making the usual and oh so boring minimal build, break and then back to boredom with no changes as the beat gets reintroduced, Joris adds something extra which reemerges within the track as pure bliss.

The Samuel L. Session remix is run-off-the-mill fodder, which possibly will appeal to just as lame dj's as this remix and ketamine victims on the dancefloor.

Villalobos* - Fizheuer Zieheuer - 01-Dec-06 02:54 AM
First of all I'd like to ask for an update in the rating system here on Discogs. Instead of the 1-5 system it should be expanded to range from -5 to 5 and this release from Villalobos surely proves that it has to be implemented on Discogs.
Rarely does it occur that such a pretentious release see the light of day and at the same time so clearly express what is so wrong in the minimal House scene. When you get carried away by such a hyped release and praise it like many people do it only shows why minimal doesn't go anywhere and why people wants it to be like that. It safety, nothing that can spoil your perfect drugrelated buzz and honestly - when something carries on for more than half an hour and theres a sudden change I'd praise every single higher power of the universe to drag me out of the ultimate misery of complete boredom.

Ricardo is popular cause he's a raver like the people who goes out and hear him but most of all he's a "Volksverführer" von der Minimal Lüge and the priest of Generation Coco Loco.

Kenlou - The Bounce / Gimme Groove - 23-Oct-06 03:06 PM
This is Masters At Work at their absolute peak of being creative and playful!

"The Bounce" unveils layers of layers of extremely clever drumprogramming with a unmatched perfection of the finest details and arrangement. On top of it all an instrument or somehow modulated vocal adds the last spice to set the underground party on fire! A luminous example of how to create wild dancefloor appeal, experiment at the same time and making it all work. One of the big club records of 1995 which again, like many other great releases from this era, could be played in both a House or Techno context.

"Gimme Groove" is a bittersweet lullaby'ish disco groove which is a fitting contrast to "The Bounce". Again MAW delievers something special and of it's own nature. Even thought it's slightly more traditional it catches you straight away and drags you into that special atmosphere that you never want to end.
