Started clubbing in 1999 and dj'ing in 2004. I'm very particular about my records and I handle them carefully. I don't sell promos without indicating it in the listing description. I know what its like to receive a promo when you were expecting full release version.

I have this cd, and have listened to it many times. There's some really brilliant tracks on here. The lead in track "You Are The Worst" is outstanding. The problem is, even now that this track is available on white label (along with a handful of others), I just can't bring myself to buy it. I'm sure that there are other people out there who feel the same way. Great music, but don't care enough to lay out a few bucks for it. Why is that? I think the problem is that all of the tracks on here, although different on the surface, pretty much sound the same. They are disposable. They are throw aways. Not immediate throw aways, but when I'm widdling down the wish list, and the budget is limited, there's always another record from a different artist that ends up being much more exciting than any of tracks from this release.

The mixing on this cd is perfect, the blends are perfect, the songs are mastered perfectly but I still dont like this cd. It smells like a dentists chair. It is stainless steel inside a science lab. Its the opposite of organic. Despite the warm bass, and soothing vocals here and there, the overall feeling is cold and computerized. At no point does this mix shift gears or do anything besides lazily plod along towards the middle of nowhere. I wish I could hear a modern mix cd where a track drifts out of sync, and is corrected via the touch of someones hand. I miss that connection with the dj. This cd, although not terrible, is a lowpoint for electronic dance music. Coming from someone like Sasha, it had the potential to be so much more. Instead of side-stepping the obvious trend he unfortunately fell into it. People will not care about this cd in 5 years the way they care about the first Involver now. Its a shame.

I managed to get myself a copy of this for 3 dollars. I'm really happy that I didnt spend another dime on this because I have to say its by far the most boring, flatline, go nowhere Moritz record I own. At best, this is a dj tool. I'll try to keep it positive by saying that there's a bunch of other outstanding Moritz works in the realm of dubno that are much more worth your investment. The Moritz remix of Tony Allen's "Ole" and also his remix of 2raumwohnung's "Ich Bin Der Regen" are much higher quality works. I'm trying to be fair and consider that this was made in 1995 when this sound was newer and productions were generally more primitive in nature. Maybe the people that love it so much are seeing it in a more nostalgic context. I'll probably give this away to one of my friends.

Linkwood Family - Miles Away (Intrusion Dubs) - 12-Sep-09 11:25 AM
Great to see some dub techno being released with color, warmth, and personality. For this 12 inch Hitchell employs the classic echospace, deepchord, intrusion styled dub techno foundation that has been around since the 90's but has been steadily gaining a cult-like popularity in the realm of obsessive techno nerds. Hitchell diverges from the cookie cutter dub template when he stacks a very emotive guitar pluck type lead, some awfully catchy bongo loops, and a distant saxophone on top. The result is a very warm and genuine release that will absolutely stand the test of time. If I could recommend a release to give to a listener who is just beginning to explore the world of dub techno, this would be it.

Population One - Rush Hour - Part Two - 05-Sep-09 09:16 AM
Convextion's remix of Rush Hour is extremely powerful. Its mostly kickless but about half way through a deep breakbeat drops in cranks up the ominous intensity. This feels more like one of Moritz Von Oswald's experimental works than a Convextion record, but trust me this is a good thing! This track would be so perfect to open with if you were playing a festival jammed to the gills with thousands of people. The hypnotic guitar jams and the eerie spaced out feel would certainly trigger that moment for those in the crowd waiting for their junk to kick in. Absolute stunner!

Isolée - The Western Edits Pt. 2 - 28-Aug-09 06:27 PM
This one flat out knocks. I dont like very many Ricardo Villabos records but this one is worthy of a 5 star rating. Its 15 minutes long but dont expect Ricardo's typical ploddy "you have to listen for the subtle changes in the sound sculpting" approach. There's plenty of changes to keep things interesting. The basslines and percussion (at least to me) seem to have hip hop influences. The vocal is sinister, and the keys are creepy as hell.
