Helios - Caesura - 12-Nov-08 09:38 AM
Caesura sees Helios return to the instrumental, downtempo ambience that made his first 2 albums such an experience. Keith's previous effort in 2006, Ayres, was quite the departure from his norm with the inclusion of vocals. Whether it was just something he wanted to get out of his system or a trend that he will continue eventually remains uncertain. Caesura has no vocals but instead the album has much more of a experimental nature then previous Helios material. Several tracks contain a electronic fuzz while others lean towards a darker sound then anything he's done before. Helios continues to release quality music. My only complaint: too short!

Kevin Hanton - Illuminati Audio Science - 11-Oct-08 07:22 AM
I've got no idea who Kevin Hanton is but he did a very good job mixing this Deepchord/Rod Modell material. This CD is more or less a companion album to Modell's "Vibrasound" which was released around the same time. The majority of music on here is material from that album mixed to be a continuous techno experience. There is also some unreleased music on here too but I have a hard time picking it out and knowing when it comes into play... Its worth noting that CD is fairly hard to get a hold of now days so if you come across it for sale somewhere, don't hesitate to buy!
Yagya - Will I Dream During The Process? - 01-Sep-08 07:05 PM
This CD has a sound that you don't hear very often. Sure there are traces of dub techno in here but there really is a ethereal and deep quality to these tracks that words just might not do justice. This album fuses house, ambient and dub effortlessly and the result is very magical. Distant hums and female voices fill the world of Yagya. Sending Orbs is a quality label and "Will I Dream In The Process?" is without a doubt one of their most impressive releases. Seemingly limited to 1500 copies for the entire world... I wouldn't dare part with mine.
Basic Channel - BCD - 01-Aug-08 06:40 AM
I don't think i'm going out on a limb here when I say that this is THE dub techno album to own... Well in any case, if you see it fit to only own 1 dub techno CD then I would beg you to make this your choice. I'm a fan of newer artists like Deepchord/Echospace, Murmur and Quantec but lets face it, this is where it all began. These tracks are from the early to mid 90's and it doesn't even show in the sound in my opinion. We have the hidden techno beat in e2e4 Basic Reshape and then there's the lovely static of Mutism. Well actually.. Every track is is pretty hypnotic and a classic by any means. If you're new to dub techno then I can do nothing more then suggest Basic Channel's "BCD" as your starting point for the genre.
Helios - Unomia - 19-Jul-08 09:23 AM
This has got to be one of my favorite albums ever. The music is so magical in my ears and the only other artists I can possibly compare to Helios is Boards of Canada and maybe even Biosphere. Most of the tracks have delicate strings and piano and while the music probably falls under the label IDM, its much more then that once you start listening. There are some field recordings of nature and voice samples from cinema thrown in and the whole album just creates a perfect atomosphere which the album artwork conveys. Some argue that the 2006 Helios ablum topped this one, but to me Unomia will always be number 1. Its also worth noting that his work under Goldmund is almost as equally pefect as his Helios music.
