Profile: My first experience with elctronic music was a cassette of Turn up the bass 2. From that moment on I bought nothing but electronic music. First cassettes, later on cd`s and ofcourse 12". Live gigs were like magic to me, even though I had never whitnessed it until I was old enough to visit. At that point, house music already became bigger and bigger. A lot of the magic disappeared. Fortunately there was a really good club nearby me were the best gigs were given. Goa and acid house were the bomb these days. Highlight of that time was a concert by the Acid Junkies. Nowadays, growing older and whitnessing some things happening all over again, I am still looking for that spirit of the good old days. But still, even though everything changes great electronic music is coming out every day.. you just have to look in the right places. Nowadays, I am a big fan of good quality prog/trance, as played by the likes of Markus Schulz, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, etc.

Reviews:

Various - Forbidden Paradise 7 - Deep Forest - 19-Jan-09 11:23 AM
The review stated above is just right. However I`d like to add that this FP-episode is a huge improvement in production quality compared to FP-6. Listen to the way the emotions fit right in the mix! Excellent job by Tiesto, it remains a mistery why he is not credited in the booklet..! Highlights include Greece 2000 and the surprising mixing combination of track 15 and SOSA-The wave. One of the first releales of Hammock Brothers (where Tiesto teams up with Rolank Kramer) also sets the standard for years to come. When going to trance heaven, this cd will be played in the arrivals lounge.

Various - Forbidden Paradise 4 - High As A Kite - 19-Jan-09 11:09 AM
I consider this the best episode of the FP-series. A breaktrough in trance music comp`s, being one of the best of that "era". The mixing and timing is excellent, for me it was one of the first times dj Tiesto cought my attention with his attention to detail. Tracks are well chosen, building up to an emotional climax when the last track kicks in, brilliantly fading into Fast Trac`s "Inertia"... During listening, you will be high as a kite! All tracks can be considered trance-classics by now, and there is not a single moment on this energetic mix that I don`t like. True classic and highly recommended!

Quivver - Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails - 19-Jan-09 10:46 AM
I am pleasantly surprised by this album from John Graham. Having monitored (and enjoyed!) the Quivver releases for some years now, I was curious to see (and hear) how an artist album would work out. The album is light and easy to listen to, but contains layers and layers of emotions, respect! Some songs remind me of the brilliant album of Brian Transeau, movement in still life. Sometimes deep and spacey, sometimes energetic and minimal. The balance is just right and the production quality is flawless. Great progressive material! If only this album would be longer than just 55 mins....

Various - House Party VI - The Ultimate Megamix - 25-Sep-03 01:16 AM
This part of the House Party series combined "mellow" and "hardcore" for the second time. Part five only had two songs of hardcore, divided by an intermezzo. On this record there is a very good integration of the two styles present. But it was also the last, because Arcade saw the light and divided the next edition into two cd`s. one mellow and one hardcore. This choice was, in my eyes, against the spirit of house music. It placed the buyer for a choice, am I hardcore? or mellow? It would have been a nice statement if Arcade continued the series in one style, with both elements of hardcore and mellow. But what`s done is done.. I consider part 6 to be pretty good, but Buzz Fuzz and M. Theo were clearly not able to catch the "spirit" of the first 5 parts, easily recognisable in the style of the guys from TCM.
#45 (ramon roelofs) is actually called Loempia EP.
