Profile: I used to DJ (between 1992-2002) but I'm retired from all that now. I was resident at a major London club for over 5 years in the late 90's/early 2000's, and played other gigs around the country, plus a stint in Ibiza in '99. I mixed with a lot of the big names of the time and some who have since become big names on the trance/hard house scene. These days I'm just digitally archiving the vast swathe of tunes I amassed during those years...and it's a f*kin' laborious job, for sure. I have a few special pieces of vinyl, which I will not sell at any time; but I am willing to sell most of the stuff I have listed here - provided I have archived it already. Alternatively, I may be prepared to trade; if you're looking for audio files, I don't do freebies. Contact me if you have an inquiry.

Higher And Higher meets Fast Eddie* - Yo Yo (Throw Ya Hands Up) - 06-Aug-09 11:17 AM
Say what you like about this tune. Some folks suck in air furiously when you tinker with a classic like this - which the original (Yo Yo - Get Funky by Fast Eddie) absolutely is. But, that said, this is more of a re-pump of the original and, as such, doesnt really deviate from the script. It does, however, add the ubiquitous one-note, off-beat bassline, with some much needed tempo and production to make it playable in more modern Dj sets. The important thing to note is, that it doesnt do the usual euro-house thing and turn a solid-gold slab of house history into a cheese-mongous waste of vinyl. I always found it to be an excellent floor-burner and all-round party-starter. You cant really go wrong with a bit of decent Hip-House; it always seems to have mass appeal.

Carl Cox - Live Fact II - 08-Jul-09 12:21 PM
Despite the lack of a comprehensive track-listing and less-than-impressive sound quality, I would recommend this to anyone; not just Techno fans. Listening to a copy of the actual, studio-released Fact 2 album doesnt really elicite the same response; I was rather bored by a lot of it. However, this is where Carl Cox takes it on the road and, in the process, sprinkles his magic dust all over it. Carl, like all the great Djs, has the ability to select seemingly obscure, plain-sounding tunes and drop them in and out of the mix in such way (and with such timing) that they just explode into life in true on-the-fly remix wizardry.
The thing is, as an ex-DJ, I know hes not doing anything particuarly difficult with the vinyl; the Dave Clarke remix of Rocco by Death In Vegas is a good example of this. The actual remix flatters a DJ by giving the appearance of lots of mad cutting/chopping of Zero B - Lock-up; but this is all Dave Clarke. The magic is that, Carl gives the entire set this feel, doing extensive dropping/mixing with tracks like Envoy - Dark Manoeuvers and Green Velvet - The Stalker. So, when the tune-selection and execution is so inspired, you dont need to be a Techno fan to enjoy it - it has a a life of its own.

Vengaboys - We Like To Party (The Vengabus) (Remixes) - 13-Apr-08 12:32 PM
Skip over the Tin Tin Out remix. Its fairly standard, unexciting Euro-Trance stuff and a slight departure from the usual TTO sound, I think. Go straight for the Klubbheads mix. The Vengaboys are all about cheesy, fun Euro-nonsense, anyway, so the Klubbheads just play on this and give the track some club credibility with a building, tougher melody sound and a HONKING one-note, off-beat bassline typical of everything Euro at the time (1998). Nice vocal edits in the intro bars (so you can cut them in during the mix) and, trust me, right out of the end of your mix it used to drop like a bomb when that bassline kicked in. More bounce than a pogo-stick and guaranteed to ignite your dancefloor.

Antarctica* - Return To Reality - 13-Apr-08 04:22 AM
I would add that the original mix is actually the best one here. It is typical of Steve Gibbs during 1998-2001. A sublime, yet beautiful, building prog. trancer with loads of hands-in-the-air appeal. This guy (and this track) is one of the most underrated and seemingly unappreciated trance producers of the late 90s. I hardly ever hear mention of Steve Gibbs in amongst the likes of Tiesto and PVD, yet I think he produced some of the most original and wonderful pieces of trance the world has seen.
Just check out tracks like Altitude - Night Stalker and Excession or his remix of Velvet girl - Walking In Sunshine - epic, moving tunes for the soul.

Voodoo & Serano - Blood Is Pumpin' - 12-Apr-08 08:12 AM
Basically, this track is a slightly tweaked and pumped version of the 1996 tune Up To No Good by the Porn Kings. In substance, it features the same borrowed 303 acid hook, from the Porn Kings tune, which in itself was ripped straight from Josh Winks Higher State Of Consciousness. Add a few trance pads, loose the helium vocals and you essentially have the same track. Low on invention, but high in appeal and energy; it works predictably well on the dancefloor.
