808 State - Prebuild - 31-May-05 08:29 AM
This release is both frustrating and ultimately very disappointing.....as IMHO the best tracks on the album Cosacosa and Clonezone are let down badly by the sound quality of the recordings (they are from old analog cassettes)....these records are unplayable in a club situation and make me regret ever buying this record....the other tracks (which admittedly are better sound recordings) are IMHO nowhere near as good as the original 'New Build' tracks....I would recommended that people check out the vastly superior ‘New Build’ LP and the ‘Acid House Mixes By 808 State’ to hear the true genius of 808 state....

Various - Anthony Rother Presents Electro Commando 1 - Welcome To Psicity - 13-Sep-04 09:01 AM
I have to disagree with the comment above...I don't rate this release that highly, as it sounds like a triple pack full of b-sides and unfinished tracks.... the only track that would merit a release as a single 12 is the brilliant 'machines'.... the rest of the album is utterly forgettable and it sounds like rother had a bunch of tracks that were not good enough to release as 12s so he made a mediocre compilation instead.... its quantity not quality here folks!

Dan Curtin - Deception - 01-Sep-04 06:35 AM
Dan Curtin is a true original and this is IMHO his best album to date....brilliant spacey futuristic techno full of strings and curtin's amazing percussion!

DJ Trace - 23-Jun-03 05:47 AM
Trace initial releases were in the 'ltj bukem' style dnb and were brilliant......unfortuately trace changed his sound with the remixes of t-power mutant jazz to dark noisey loud hammerhead music....this spawned imitators like bad company and the resulting invasion of darkcore tech step nearly killed the entire jungle movement....trace demise is one of the great tradegies of jungle!!!!

Iridite - 12-May-03 05:20 AM
"It's all about the music"

Iridite was founded on this principle in the summer of 1999. Dedicated to producing quality electronic dance music, and acting as a platform for both established and new artists whose work was yet to be heard. This music would be unified not strictly by genre but by its quality, the styles ranging from down tempo to Detroit inspired techno and house. Initially the aim was to bring together different artists on each release, each track being the strongest possible selection by that artist for the EP at that time.

The label was set up because at that particular time there seemed to be fewer and fewer labels who could diversify in any way - every label seemed to have its own "sub label" which in turn had its own "sub label" serving only to ghetto-ise any form of music which wasn't just "bang bang bang" techno.

"There was also the slight feeling of arrogance that we - with our perspective gained through almost 15 years of involvement in electronic music in all its myriad forms, could provide a wider perspective and would be more open to different artists' needs.  Another thing was just that - the artists.  So far Iridite have issued absolutely no instructions whatsoever to artists regarding their input to the label - no remixes suggested or "cheeky" edits of tracks etc - just quality music from people who under normal circumstances would never even consider approaching record labels with all the music business bullshit that goes with them."- Jason Brunton
