Reviews & Discussion:

The Bells was being played on white label by Mills since at least 1994, a long time before it was officially released. Sure, it's not that deep, but to say it's an "attempt to dig into Europe's craze for the hypnotic trancy stuff" is rubbish. Virtually all Techno that's released today (and for the past 10 years +) is a bad copy of Mills, and not vice versa. The popularity of the track is not Mills' fault, more of an indication of what the majority of Techno audiences like these days.
Altern 8 - Evapor 8 Aug 15, 2004 (edited over 5 years ago)
Hardcore! You know the score. The raging, raving beats, with the "Strings" sample make this a dancefloor delerium certainty. Watch yer bassbins, I'm tellin' ya!
D.J. Funk* - Untitled Aug 15, 2004 (edited over 5 years ago)
"Run" has to be the best DJ Funk track ever - perhaps on a par with "Work That Body" - the latter being much more remiscent of Funk's style, and that of Chicago house music. "Run" however, is a huge departure from that sound; deep, pumping, melodic and trippy. These days it's almost overplayed...but not quite. Essential DJ Funk.
Epoch - Codebox EP Aug 15, 2004 (edited over 5 years ago)
Fantastic release for both Surface records, and Epoch (aka Phase). Organic, tonal, restrained, impeccably produced and downright funky to boot. Serious stuff, that's why I have heard it played by quite a few DJ's.
Sabres Of Paradise, The - Sabresonic II Jul 05, 2004 (edited over 5 years ago)
Amazing release from the Sabres Of Paradise, where they showcase to the full their completely unique sound. Clock Factory has to be one of the greatest, moody atmospheric tracks ever made. A Rollercoaster. Essential.
Heavy. Brilliant stuff from Wunsch here - dark, funky, ballsy, percussive and (dare I say it) melodic techno. This works wonders on a large soundsystem, and has that something "extra" that really makes it stand out from the rest. Essential.
As far as I can make out, Morgenstern is a very under-rated producer. This release covers a very wide array of deep, atmospheric dance music, from slow, downtempo numbers to harder, more dense dancefloor material. Each track has it's own unique quirk, and the assured production skills on offer are very impressive. Definately check his stuff out.
Heavily abstract techno music from the 65 D Mavericks; more experimetal than some of their other work, but equally as stunning. Mind-twisting atmospherics across Techno and Downbeat compositions, this release adds more weight to the notion that these guys are at the top of their game.
Excellent release from the 65 D Mavericks, including some very deep and subtle remixes from some of the most revered names in UK Techno. High Quality Electronic Dance Music, just as you would expect.
A surprising departure from the SLS trademark sound, with Saag providing a glorious, epic, piano driven monster. Jazz, nice!
