Reviews & Discussion:
Early ramblings of Tom Jenkinson show how much of an influence the Warp & Rephlex labels had on his earlier sound and show that it was inevitable he'd end up recording for them at some point! Some of the tracks are showing a little sign of age, but are worth a listen never the less.
Squarepusher - nicely, son! Yeah, 'Vic Acid' delivers on the beeps, 'Big Loada' does it on the breaks and some of the later releases are a jazz fan's nightmares on wax! It's got to be said, Tom Jenkinson never fails to deliver on some count - just when you think you know what to expect from the boy he throws the rulebook away and releases things you never thought you'd buy. Then you moan & complain at the lack of a break, put it aside and play again two weeks later and get the point. Genius! I have everything except a promo mix of 'Mr.Kirk's Nightmare' I have heard about (yep, even the rare as rocking horse shit 'couple of hundred copies in exsistence' early singles) and will post details here very shortly.
The sound of electric lights humming away in a morgue at 4am mixed with various hums, whistles and parp noises to produce the perfect soundscape for anybody who finds comedowns a nightmare and has to try and get a few hours kip or go mad.But seriously, this is probably one of the more coherant albums put together by Richard D. James and although nothing more than a (challenging) collection of soundscapes it does provide a stunning collection of tracks that can be enjoyed by anyone with an open mind and doesn't stray too far into 'total wierd out territory' that other Aphex Twin releases are prone to do. I cannot recommend this enough - 21st century classical, experimental chilled stuff and deserves a place in everyone's collection.
Talvin Singh - Talvin Singh Presents Anokha: Soundz Of The Asian Underground

Go to India - every bloody music stall you come across is blaring out bootleg copies of this to appeal to the tie-dye massive! Don't let that put you off though, this is a quality compilation that showcases much of the talent to come from the Asian underground scene. Standout track has got to be Talvin Singh's 'Jaan' or State Of Bengal's 'Flight IC408'. Very, very nice.
Yep - Luke Vibert (a.k.a. Wagon Christ) dishes up the goods nicely here. Think 'easilly accessable Squarepusher' and you're getting there. Every track worth a listen and serves to show those stick in the muds that drum 'n bass can be creative despite the pace. 'DBC' stands out as my favourite track on the album, but it is up against some stiff competition - 99/100.
The sound of artists making music at 4 in the morning whilst trolleyed on substances, with thier tongues wedged firmly in thier cheeks. Should be a load of old tosh but manage to produce some excellent stuff, some bizarre tracks and the odd classic (WAFTA 12"). Put out Squarepusher 12's before Rephlex or Warp so you know they're the boys. Listen with a smile and an open mind.
