Split Horizon / Jstat* - Void Tactical - 20-Jun-08 09:54 AM
Well it appears the gears are rolling in the american breakcore scene again and it is due to releases like this. This record encompasses what it takes to make a good record.Nice thick clear sound, excellent tack selection and pressed on a good medium weight vinyl. On the A side you have Split Horizon playing his usual mid tempo hardcore. It is reminiscent of old the "Hellbound" Deadly Systems Somatics Responses to me but with a unique style. Both tracks are hard yet entrenched with droning atmospheres. Its kinda crunchy but not in the immature overly done way. The B side is by a rising american breakcore artist J-Stat.He plays a more playfull side of "Ultra Hard Techno".In both tracks he utilizes nice high synths and snappy snares to keep it upbeat.Like Split Horizon though he keeps it dark by the utilization of various atmospheric sweeps. The only way I have found to describe his sound is as the best Speed J album never put out.
In all this is a great record and one that will be rumbling soundsystems for a while.I pity those who sleep on this.It is essential for any who are into dark melodic hardcore.
