Reviews & Discussion:
Bradley Carter is formerly one half of the top oldschool duo Sy Kick, together himself and Mark French produced a number of top oldschool e.p's on oldschool labels Hamster and Tam Tam records. Sy Kick even supported The Prodigy on one of their tours back in '92. I wasnt aware that he was still in the music production game having heard nothing from him for years until now. Its mad to listen to the stuff he started producing and then hear the music that he produces now, which definately is no match for the pure energy unleashed by a Sy Kick tune. A top oldschool dog ! RESPECT !!
I can't believe what I'm hearing ! this is a terrible album ! their worst album ever ! it's not in the same league as the "Brown Album" or "Snivilisation" !! Fair enough it has got two good tracks on there "Pants" and "You Lot" but apart from those it's crap ! You can't put "One Perfect Sunrise" and "Halcyon + on" in the same category it doesnt even come close ! the collaberation with sparks is laughable and sounds like the music from a circus ! And as for "One Perfect Sunrise", it sounds like Paul Oakenfold's done a remix of the theme tune from the movie "GLADIATOR" and given it his usual septic commercial re-rub !
Orbital recently split up and if this is the best that they can do fair play lads you did the right thing ! Maybe for their next project they should collaberate with DJ Sammy ????!!??
hmmm this album is really bad ! To be honest if you played this album to me and I didnt know what it was I'd never guess that it was the prodigy, and I mean this in a bad way ! Since music for the gilted generation its been all downhill really ! although the fat of the land had a couple of tracks on there that would have stayed true Liams original style and fans(i.e 1990 - 1994) this album has absolutely no elements of Liam Howletts ability to write really innovative dance music ! to be honest Liam has turned his back on dance music and this is the largest step away from dance music to date and it would be a mistake to dub the prodigy as a dance group now ! one of the comments above said that they found themselves skipping through tunes on the first listen !I was the same ! there is nothing on that album to keep the listener interested ! Ten years ago Liam Howlett wrote the most dynamic dance album ever ! He's forgotten what the prodigy were about and I think it's time to call it a day !!!! seriously!!!!
Mark "Manix" Mac is one half of the infamous 4 Hero ! Together with partner in crime Dego McFarline they dominated the early releases on the mighty Reinforced Record label ! Mark produced "Manik" piano/hardcore tunes under the name Manix, and I think Dego produced more intelligent/experimental hardcore(dare I say Drum n Bass) tunes under the name Tek-9 and the two brought both different elements together under the name 4 Hero. Funnily enough not many of their tunes feature on any of the rave compilations from back in the day ! Their most famous namely "Head in the Clouds" and "Feel Real Good" ! Tunes like "Alright Wid Me", "Let Your Mind Be Free", "Try To Love Me", "Hardcore Junglism" and "I Cant Stand It" were massively overlooked ! Respect Due !!!
This record is one of the all time great hardcore releases and living in Ireland made it even harder to come across ! Eventually I picked it up in a records fair in London for 5 pounds ! "Take a look" is one of the best hands in the air piano tunes i have ever heard, Sy-Kick always used "chip munk" lyrics in their tunes which always worked really well but you never new what the lyrics were saying !!! the tune is all go and very busy and doesnt stop much for a breather !
But if you want to hear some really innovatative hardcore flip the tune over and listen to "Destiny", this tune is the darkest tune sy-kick did and at the time i had never heard anything like it and at both breaks in the tune it sounds like they threw in a sample out of a porn movie with the female orgasm sample which works ever so well over the darkness of the tune and the moody drums ! An absolute must have for all you oldskool / hardcore fans > Pete big up ya st8tus !!!! | ||||
