Sweet James Jones a.k.a. Pimp C - Live From Harris County Jail - 12-Nov-09 12:38 AM
Well, first one has to understand that this really isnt a full album. Its more of a practice version. Some of the songs aint even fully recorded. Some lack verses (probably by guest artists), and one or two wouldve been finished with some additional vocals. But still - this one is one hell of a CD to have. It shows you what Pimp had in mind when he recorded the album that became "The Sweet James Jones Story". To me, this one is way better than "The Sweet James Jones Story" because the last just didnt have the Pimp C-touch to it. All those guest producers and featured artists just took away from this original flavor Pimp intended to bring to the audience. If youre a real fan of UGK and Southern Rap in general - cop this one! You wont be disappointed! Also, I love the S version. Its even almost BETTER than the regular CD. If you have the chance - get em both!
Sho featuring Willie D - Trouble Man - 06-Apr-09 08:19 AM
First things first: even though the print on the cover ("Sho featuring Willie D") suggests that this is a collaborative albums, it really isnt. Willie might have been executive producer and mentor of Sho but hes "only" featured on four of the albums twelve songs. Which is just enough, as Sho has enough time to shine on his breath taking debut-album! When I first saw this one, I was like "Oh no - not another untalented protege of a famous rapper" - Sho proved me wrong. This album is so smooth, southern fried, gangster and most of all REAL, that Sho sometimes even out-dos his famous mentor! This one is one of my all time favorites! Kind of similar to Big Mikes "Somethin Serious" or Willies "Play witcha Mama". You can listen through the album without finding a weak or disturbing song. Which is pretty sad, since neither the album, nor Sho has ever gained the success he would have deserved.
Just check "Pray Ill be a failure", "Mississippi" or "Here today gone tomorrow" and youll want to have this album - and play it over and over again!
C-Murder - Bossalinie - 23-Nov-08 06:54 AM
C-Murders second album "Bossalinie" is one of the most slept on albums in rap-history. Yeah, its No Limit, yeah, its bling bling, its hood rich, cheesy and whatelse - but its awesome! It paints a perfect picture - from the Q-Pack and the artwork, over the beats and the lyrics to the contributing artists - it all matches just perfectly. C might not be the greatest lyricist or technical rapper on the planet, but he just put together an enormously atmospheric album, which shows No Limit at its BEST. Its my favorite No Limit-album - succeeding Macs "Shell Shocked" and Soulja Slims "Give it 2 em raw". Only Fiends two No Limit-efforts come close to what this man put out with this album. Just a fascinating trip through the shiny, flashy and gangsta No Limit-World. You like melodic beats, a lot of sung hooks and arent too obsessed with the art of "keeping it real"? Than this album is your thing!
