Profile: Since the forced change to V4 my interest in this site has declined significantly, and by now I only come here to keep track of my records (which is getting increasingly harder, as noone ever votes or checks obscure stuff anymore). And since V4 it's like they opened the idiot and seller gates and let all the morons in here to just add whatever into the database and get away with it. Nope, I don't feel like bothering with cleaning up the mess, even if they are my own records they tamper with.
Here's my partner in crime:
Laura!
And this is what she looks like.

Freestylers - Raw As F**k - 09-Aug-05 01:42 PM
I picked up this more or less on impulse on my last visit to London, and after listening to it a few times Ive fallen completely in love with it. What Freestylers has done here is deliver a really wide range of songs from all over the place and collected them all in a very nice 3 LP sleeve.
Theres really something for everyone here. The old school sounding Warrior Charge with its rolling amen breaks and nice melody hook, the hiphop flavored Dogs And Sledges, the 80s sounding Push Up with its borderline cheesy vocals. Then theres also the radio friendly track Too Far and the nice vocal drum workout Losing You. All the tracks differ in style and sound, so you can almost sneak the entire album into one mix session and get away with it. I dont think Ive ever encountered a breaks album this diverse, yet so well done with so many good tunes and so few fillers.
This album is a must have, regardless of whether youre into breaks or not. A true classic.
Various - Short Music For Short People - 02-Jun-05 10:57 PM
Ok, I have mixed feelings about this release, and Ill explain why.
The premise was this: Make as many bands as possible submit a song that was not to be longer than 30 seconds. That idea is really cool and original, but the drawback is when you actually try to sit down and listen to the whole thing in one go. It simply cant be done... Imagine listening to 101 fragments of music. Thats like sitting and previewing sound clips on the internet before you decide if you really want a CD or not. The songs are over before they have a chance to get going really. If you do a short song or two on a punk or hardcore album, then its all fine... but 101 short ones at once... in a row?!
Well. I guess my rating of this record is more based on the effort to actually make it rather than the pretty chopped up and fragmented outcome the final release turned out to be.
I give it an A+ for effort, but thats pretty much it.
Plaid - Double Figure - 18-Oct-04 08:41 PM
Two standout tracks on this superb release: Eyen and New Family. Both tracks represent the part of IDM I cherish; Crisp drums and wonderful melodies. No matter how mellow I feel, playing New Family always puts a smile on my face.
Aphrodite - Aftershock - 16-Mar-04 01:57 AM
A decent release, but its starting to feel like hes making the same tracks over and over... same wobbly bassline, same drumsounds, same build-ups. If he doesnt totally renew himself soon, hell dig his own grave. When I first got into d i thought his releases was the best ever, but now in retrospect I realise that it was just the same record over and over all the time, with some different intro every time.
Orb, The - Perpetual Dawn - 08-Mar-04 05:17 PM
Forget the title track. What makes this release something to remember is the B-side. A floaty, dreamy melody and some nice slow beats make up for some really sweet chill music. Even if it was released in 1991, it still feels fresh enough to be played today. Play this one on a warm summer evening and youll see what I mean.
