Compressed - 31-Mar-08 01:11 PM
Founded in 1999 Compressed still feels like remaining on the fast track: Michael Burkat as incorporator aimed at a balanced mixture of well known artists and young, ambitiuos newcomers. The release – catalogue shows that he succeeded:
Compressed combines longtime experience and fresh ideas. Felix Kröcher has been A for Compressed since 2004 and he doesn’t follow trends – he is setting them!

The label had been the starting point for several nonfamous names who thereby raised to the top league of producers and deejays. Compressed always stood for high-class techno productions and is focusing on more development at present:

It’s getting more dark, peppy and insane – corresponding to the name its power gets even more compressed and hardtechno will be in the center of future releases. The young and untamed are coming. Grab hold of your environment because Compressed has heavy load in the pipeline!

Beatles, The - Something / Come Together - 03-Nov-07 02:55 PM
In 1969 Timothy Leary intended to run for governor of Califorina against a B-movie actor named Ronald Reagan. One of Learys battle cries was "Come together," and he asked his friend John Lennon to write a song based on it for the campaign. By the time Lennon got around to it, Learys campaign was dead (he had to drop out when he was convicted of marijuana possession).
Lennon liked the phrase, though, and decieded to build a song around it anyway. He loosely based it on the old Chuck Berry tune, "You Cant Catch Me." He even left the line, "Here come old flattop." Other than that, its nothing like the Berry song, but because Lennon admitted to borrowing the line, Berrys publisher sued him. The settlement: Lennon agreed to record two Chuck Berry songs on his 1975 solo album, Rock N Roll. Written and recorded in a single session at the studio, "Come Together" was one of Lennons favorites.

Murat & Advent, The - Missing / Brand - 14-May-07 03:07 AM
The Murat tracks on the A side are hard with the first track being an old school string laden, Detroit influenced bomb and the A2 being a driving tribal techno track. The Advent tracks on the flip are even better with the B1 being a real anthemic hard synth laden, heads down, dark room techno bomb. The record is finished nicely with the more laid back B2 with its big sub bass and spacey synths.

Hertz - Three Ways Remixes - 04-May-07 04:54 AM
On the A side Misjah delivers a heavyweight bomb that cannot be ignored with clever use of the main synth line with heavy 303s and walloping drums. On the flip WJH uses DK8 like bass synth bass sounds and similar heavyweight percussion and huge breaks to achieve maximum dance floor impact.

Pigmeat Markham - 03-May-07 10:59 PM
Dewey "Pigmeat" Markhan was one of the only African-American performers to break the color barrier and perform in the then segregated world of Big Time Burlesque. And of course it was in the Minskys show that he led the way. Prior to that he was a big star on the black vaudeville for the Theatre Owners and Bookers Association, which was called the TOBA circuit. It had only black entertainers and played to black audiences. It was mainly through the Deep South but there were also TOBA houses in Chicago, Baltimore, Washington DC, St. Louis and Kansas City. The world-famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem was a member of the chain. Mr. Markham was king of the comics at the Apollo. He was a big raucous comedian whos speciality was courtroom scenes.
