Beatfreaks, The (2) - Switch VIP / Get Funky Apr 01, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
It always amazes me that tracks like the Beatfreaks' "Switch" (later enhanced to "Switch VIP") do not get the exposure and credit the tracks so richly deserve. This is an oustanding track that is highly original and of the finest quality. Tracks like this really had an influence on the emerging UK Garage genre back in 2001 but were rarely if at all played on legal radio stations. This track sold out extremely quickly in all the record stores I use yet so few people know what the track is called. Unfortunatly, yet another underground classic that the UK garage faithful will love to hear but have no idea of when it comes to identifying it. Massive respect to the Beatfreaks for an extraordinary track.
Bini & Martini - Happiness (X Men Remix) Mar 24, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
A classic and rare underground UK Garage mix of Bini & Martini's "Happiness" track that was and still is a rarity as far as known. Stunned it was never offically released as it is such a fine remix. Composing of quite a haunting intro with the Sylvestor's unique vocals that suddenly switches into the inimmitable X-Men 2-step break and deep square wave bassline. The result is a beautifully crafted chunky track that is very uplifting but also slightly leftfield. The sound was not typical of UK garage at the time and this is a credit to the producers originality and creativity. You woud be hard pushed to hear this played out never mind find a copy these days, except perhaps thrown into the odd classic set on pirate radio or underground club event. Really love this one.
Da Posse - Strings Feb 27, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
This twelve is probably best known for "It's My Life (Aluh Mix), which is unquestionably an outstanding underground classic. Sounding very Detroit techno-esque and very similar to 'The Dance' by Rhythim is Rhythim I wonder if Hula (Lemar Hula Mahone), who I believe was/is from Chicago, was influenced by Derrick May's equally monster creation.

Rare and very collectable, this track holds I'm sure for many people a memory of what was an amazing time in house history.
Hyper Go Go - High (Original Mixes & Remixes) May 12, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
Undoubtedly one of the best and most memorable piano tracks ever. All the mixes on this twelve are premium quality. The piano riff is truely inspirational and one of the best ever composed for dance music in my view. A mega club classic.
Jolly Roger Featuring E-Mix - Why Can't We Live Together Jan 19, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
This 12" would be pretty mediocre if not for track B2 Ulysses (The Groove), which is incredible. Massively underground sounding and really kicks. Eddie Richards at his best.
Shut Up & Dance - Lamborghini Jan 19, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
SUAD are awesome - such a pure example of underground UK '89 house it never ceases to bring back that underground club feeling, even if the club happens to be a disused warehouse. This one is proper '89 stylee and a irrefutable underground house classic!
Blak 'N' Spanish - Spanish And Blak EP Apr 18, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
The Kik Da Bucket track on this E.P. is superb and deserves to be an official remix of Bucketheads' - The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind). It's so chunky and really works the crowd in a club on a good bassy/thumpy sound system - brilliant production. Basically, they've used Todd Terry's Keep On Jumpin' (Original Unreleased Edit) with the Bucketheads The Bomb! trumpet stabs/percussion and a wicked old hip-hop rapper sample That goes "...This is chaos in effect and we comin' at you with a mental vibe...and this one's for the FREAKS!". There's a lot more to it than that but you got to hear to appreciate it. The Spanish and Blak track get's an okay but the rest is unremarkable. Cool label design though.
Out Of The Ordinary - The Dream Mar 24, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
Superb '88/'89 acid house classic and one of defining tracks of the time. Dr. Martin Luther King's powerful 'I Have A Dream' speech over epic sounding chords, relentless house beats, razor sharp high hats and poignant samples ("Got to keep the white 'n' the blacks separate!"). Though originally released during the acid house reign The Dream was one of the first tracks to be less acidic and more synth and sample based. 'Get Into Magic Mix' highly recommended.
