Royce Icon - I Will Annihilate - 30-Apr-08 06:40 PM
This is raw, theatrical, and excellent. Short and to the point. Get it - its free! And its good! Excellent sound quality and interesting. Surprizing. Not your typical power electronics - some avant-garde mixed in as well. Cynical, funny, riot, experiment, exploration, all you wish for in a very interesting recording by the very talented artist Royce Icon now residing in Seattle. More at www dot skullvomit dot com where he has his web site.

Xdugef - ASDFHAKSFHAFSOSAUF - 25-Apr-06 04:46 AM
Glad I found the time to write a review on one of my all time favorite noise CDs. Xdugef surprizes us here with a nightmarish drone and glitch/bend CD that takes you to another planet where disaster lurks around the next corner. Often you glide through looped soundscapes with industrial feel and events happen on this soundscape - like factories appearing on the horizon or funny beings telling you their story of thorrow and demise.
There is no uphill in this glitched out spaced out slow drone world - everything ends in decay, loss, loosing of parts. Tracks are frequently engulfed in slow sad melodic lines of humming from some transistors. Hard to describe because this CD is certainly in its own category.
Overal, it is in the realm of ambient noise with an industrial feel to it for the choice of sound and the looped character. A lot of distorted and screwed up sounds - transistors, machines, and tortured toys.
The CD is very well produced and mastered, perhaps with the exception of track 3 - I am sure the artist wants it like this but my car speakers made my car vibrate from nose to ass - maybe the artist wanted to not only have music coming from the speaker but from the whole environment. If so, he succeeded completly. That is one monster bass.
Overall, this is one of the CDs I wouldn't want to part with and has inspired me a lot. Planet X is a result of listening to this. So get your copy today from www.xdugef.com or www.roilnoise.com (distro) and agree or disagree with this review.

Damno Te - Betrayal Cuts Both Ways - 01-Apr-06 04:47 AM
Ok, so I gave this CD a good listen in my car - which is my preferred place for reviewing music because I like to annoy the rappers with some loud noise coming out of it ;P. Also the system is just incredibly good and CDs sound awesome in it.
You might be surprized that I find the content to be industrial to some extent and not plain noise. The reason is simple - the first three tracks have as a common motive the repetitive structure of the background which is broken up by noises screaching in and out and some glitchy tempo changes, speed ups etc. But overall you get the feeling being exposed to factories, machines, noisy hell.
The first three tracks remind me a tad of Xdugefs alphabet salad CD if you were to speed the thing way up - or this one way down. The first track is supported by a melancholic three tone slow humming type mellody which makes this track very sad and heavy on the soul. This is an excellent idea to keep the track focussed and on target even though many noise layers are being explored, introduced, glitched and fucked up.
There are also elements of power electronic coming your way, distortion, screaching, hissing, overdrive, a tad white noise (but just a tiny tad). Tracks 2 and 3 follow largely the concept of track 1 without exploration in depth. Short and to the point.
The last track is perhaps the most noise track because it offers more breaks, even some far and distorted drums in those breaks, it is more random in structure.
My personal fav is track 1 which even with 23 minutes doesn't seem to be long because it offers variation while staying right on target.
In summary, this CD is certainly worth every penny you pay for it and a must for those who love noisy industrial or industrialish noise.
I would suggest making this into a high quality CDR and offer at least 50 copies for the world. A lot of much lower quality junk is offered in larger numbers. The only drawback of the CD is perhaps in the artwork section which could use a professional overhaul. The artwork ideas are great, the excecution is lacking behind.
Cheers, Kai
Suicidal Tendons - Chunks Of Asphalt - 30-Mar-06 10:27 AM
Bursts of noise are really delivered like asphalt flying in your face. From the releases I have from Obscurica this is one of my favorites. The tracks do not sound one like the other - quite a variation of noise is tossed out here. From high hissing noise to more drone oriented LoFi distorted pedal noise. Very nice noise attacks indeed.
Torturing Nurse - NanaNanaNanaNanaNanaNana - 30-Mar-06 08:27 AM
This is an excellent noise CDR. The noise is chaotic and Shanghai style - with screamo vocals that add a nice touch. The tracks are mostly short and to the point - delivered like noise bursts. The packaging of the CD is also nice - it comes with two coloured plastic sheets that can be used to reveal different detail of the cover - one is red and one blue. Very nice touch there. Yet another good Obscurica release.
