Butter Rum - Hit The Beach
Apr 20, 2009
Seeing this song labeled style wise as Hip Hop is kind of misleading. This is more of early Electro than hip hop. Just finding out this track wasn't very popular elsewhere during it's prime, is very surprising to me. Down here in the South United States, no such thing. From the click track to the Sassy Suave Vocal's, this song used to drive us wild at the notorious "Neo Beach". So the climaxing lyric, "Hit The Beach Now", and the key board and drum track pushing forward would literally sink the dance floor. Neo Beach was elevated on a wooden frame over water and would fit upwards of 300-400 people. With four 18's in a big box near the floor, this song would make em go wild. Mixing "Diamond Girl" and "Miami's Rockin", and others with this track would really tell you all you would ever need to know about one of the least known style's of electronic music ever.
Filter (2) - Where Do We Go From Here (The Remixes)

Released at a time of confusion for me this title really hit home. Combining Morel and DJ hyper and the phenomenal X-ecutioner's with R.Vission, this is no doubt an under rated single that could have easily been cheesed out, (P. Rau.?) Intelligent beat and keyboard programming, and transforming, set this apart. Using the Original Vocal to superb depth's and pushing the limit between Man and Machine, ok ok ok. This is the best combo of hip hop rock/club mutation's you may ever hear punching the doubtful future right in the noggin.
I will not be selling this item, for after the storm "Katrina", I do not think a better suited track could be found to explain the dilemma that still persists to this very day. From Filter with love.
Various - Jive Electro Sampler

What a handy lil promo pack this is. The best West Coast has to offer. With each of the three tracks, medley's are the remedy, giving the listener a quality taste of each.
Dubtribe's mystical number's still reign true here, with the sedative Beats and Desert like feel, "Dubtribe" can be mistaken for a "Dietribe", beautiful quality work from the Kid that could. They used to laugh at him you know when he was growing up, much prop's... Song's are from the Album "Bryant Street". Track two combine's four of the many Remix releases from "Jive" of the time into this handy medley. This is prime moving material for the avid remixkateer buff. What to say, Hardknox are the real deal, filtering chaos into the paper called a speaker like no other. Break your Momma's back break beats with the raw raucous Vocal's at high speed was enough to get many a college kid evicted. Great Medley of work sampling the upcoming debut Album at the time.

This is absolute Techno/Club heaven. Dj set's by Frankie Bones incorporating top Techno and Club tunes with Frankie on the mix and his sometimes not perfect style make this a keeper and totally original for anyone lucky enough to come across it. Now try to emulate the track list here and mix it yourself. Very difficult compared to today's music Electro. Various styles combined with excellent sound mastering are all brought together in this package for an all out time warp back to The Tunnel Nyc, or any locale lucky enough to not be playing crappy club music in the early 90's.
What to say, every single Remix is true to form and very loyal to the original's. Using just the right amount of sample and new percussion infusion makes this compilation one for the collection, plain and simple. The cover is very nice adaptation to old school Nyc, (love the cheesy 80's limo's), with Artist's like Bob Dylan and Anita Ward and many other's, this is by far one of the best Remix compilation's I have ever come across.
Rainbow Country and Bob Marley, the "Sand In Shoe" chill Remix is simply outstanding combining downbeat percussion and excellent wave audio action, love how loud the waves are, makes you feel like you are really at the beach at night. He is an obvious genius Funkstar, although his style can be a little boring compared to today's Electro wave, they are mature and very unadulterated, thus, very original. This is no doubt 5 out of 5 in any Retro lover's book.

A Split - Second - Mambo Witch
Aug 18, 2008
Perhaps one of the most diabolical singles around at the time. With the samples "I'm Gonna Kill You", and classic Split Second Synth lines throughout, this was hard to beat for Goth and Acid joint's alike. Written arranged and produced by Ickx-Chayell, with guitar's to boot. & the grungy Vox's all meshed to make an S & M dream come to life on wax. This was a quintessential track for a Goth/Industrial dj to truly be.
Maxx, The - (The Biggest Illegal Export) Cocaine
Aug 14, 2008
Growing up in the big easy anything that was considered naughty was good, music no different. With it's original slow acid beat, and it's samples, this was an anthem that combined with the right light show could send shivers down the spine of spineless ga ga club jocks who in their wildest dreams could never play this out. Combining pure slow rhythm acid with "Biggest Illegal Export" over and under, this was a treat for the late night underground club heads when they got their heads out of their asses long enough to come hear and see the acid scene. The acid playground was expanding fast and this track helped to propel the genre big time, and along with "Blackout", the dj could literally make the clubber think the world is ending and send them right back to the shiny disco balls they came from, werd. Very hard to find, even back then, this is highly recommended for the acid house head.... The song goes, "Ca Ca Ca Ca Ca, Ca Ca Ca Ca Ca, Cocaine"!
Cult, The - She Sells Sanctuary
Aug 14, 2008
Combining multiple styles, guitar riffs and electronics always set the Cult apart especially on the band's 12" releases, and this is no different. The last note before the first breakdown is a "dung" beat, heard round the world a million times. Echoey guitar riffs combined with super clear percussion, the gritty vocal throughout combining heartless emotion with real life adventure, and the effect of real and electronic drums sent many a crowd into a late night frenzy. This track played late at night in the right juke joint can bring back all of the reasons the name is so perfect for this band. | ||||
Some of the anthem's are here and some not. It is a nice blend of known and relatively unknown track's from this magical time for Dance Music. Neglected no more, may the Boss Label of the time produce a few more, I'll buy em.
