Sabrina - Cover Model - 27-Feb-09 02:41 AM
It was on my unknown wantlist for at least ten years before I finally found out that the record I had been hunting so desperately for was from no one less than Sabrina! Miss Oops my bikini Salerno.... The wet dream of all teenage Boys Boys Boys in the 80s.
Damn, how could I explane this to my music loving partners in crime? One of my biggest want was a track from Sabrina!

For anyone who doesnt know this track: It is one of those very nice Italian summer tunes with all the usual Italian ingrediënts including pianoriff and (uncleared) samples.
The track is sung by Sabrina herself (so dont expect too much here) except for the well known You got me running sample which was lend from Sima.
Cover model has the typical Rossini/DJ Mori sound which I love so much. The Bass Mixx on the b-side can easily fit in any Italian house set and has less vocals.

Hearing it on the French radio every day when on holiday back then in 1991 it was the ultimate summer tune. A 5 star rating was far from enough. Giving it another serious spin in 2009 it should actually deserve a 3/4 stars rating but as it takes me back to good old times everytime I hear it I keep my rating on 5.

Ankawa - Walla Walla Coco - 13-Feb-09 03:48 AM
This is a hard one and the next question rises up right away:
"How am I going to review an awesome Italian (deep)house track with way too cheesy vocals?"
Forgetting the vocals for a second you can expect on of the better Italian (deep)house productions. Especially the us underground and us miami mixes give me the that Italian vibe Im always craving for.
But then weve got the vocals. Dont get me wrong, they are not bad at all but just too cheesy and reggae for the music behind it. The vocalist sounds a bit like Africa Bambaataa when theyre singing. And thats not exactly where I get goose bumps from. :-)

Thats leaves me to this conclusion:
- Is it worth buying the track? Definitely!
- You need to get used to the vocals before youll love it
- The magic word: dub mixes... dub mixes! dub mixes?!
- Rating: Music:5 stars, Vocals:3 stars

Iribe Kossa - You Got Me - 17-Oct-08 08:08 AM
Something Ive always wandered is why this track didnt became a huge clubhit?
Create the same funky groove and vibe as Secchis I say yeah, get rid of Orlando Johnsons vocals, add a great piano and a few uplifting sampled vox from Sima and those vocals which also have been used by Korda - Move Your Body, and there you have your clubhit: You Got Me!
An 5-star track which has been kept secret from me until a few years ago. After hearing it for the first time it went straight into the top 20 of all time favourite Italians.

Hard to find but definitely worth hunting for!

Klubfilter - Illumination - 17-Oct-08 06:29 AM
This is a track I hardly ever heard before, especially the A-side. Klubfilter managed to make an outstanding mix between house, funky grooves and heavy synthsounds/patterns giving it a hypnotic feel without losing its balls. This is one of those tracks where people come up to you right away to ask which record it is, when you play it.
Even in 2008 this track will still blend perfectly in your DJ set and doesnt sound outdated at all.

The B-side is a very smooth and more balearic house track but with the same hypnotic feel as the A-Side. This track will perfectly fit in any deephouse set.

Its a shame that Gil Chabbert decided to stop producing in 2004 as I think he had the potential to become a huge producer.

Megafloor - Fixation - 24-Apr-07 03:17 AM
Basically Fixation is based on the baseline of Touch me by the 49ers. An awesome and typical X-Energy type Pianoriff was added on top and is finished with a male voice saying I need a fix, fixation and the wellknown female sample Im hot for you.
The brilliance of this track lies in the basic production and the change in chords thoughout the track, like Max n Frank Minoia did a lot during these days.
Fixation seems to be hard to find but is definitely worth hunting. Its in my top 5 of all time Italian house favourites!
