Grace Jones - Private Life / She's Lost Control - 08-Jul-08 01:04 AM
I personally love both the covers.
Grace Jones version of "She's Lost Control" is so special it becomes a whole new song "I've lost control".
It starts our gracefully and during the track she evolves into this crazy hurt woman screaming out her pain and loosing her control in a reagga/dub kind of way.
The way she takes this masculine song and turns it to a song from a womans point view still with respect for the original poetry in the lyrics is really nice. It is one of my favorite coversongs, cause it is so original.

Moodymann - 30-Apr-08 02:23 PM
Moody-Mystery-Man! For some white folks it can be hard to grasp a sometimes frustrated black man's intention.

Understanding his political points or not, Moodyman is in my opinion one of the masters in experimental yet extremely funky house music.

Gilles Peterson made an absolutely great interview with Moodymann last year on bbc radio. Moodymann sounds like spliffed funny and realistic guy with one clear indention: Making good music his way.

His sound is deep scruffy house with many references to jazz, soul hip-hop and disco.

Besides making music he is also a really great dj. He works with many people and among them are Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, Norma Jean Bell and Malik Pittman.

I highly recommend listening to Moodymann while smoking weed.

Bjørn Svin - Benene På Nakken - 12-Feb-08 04:50 AM
This record is a gem in danish music. It really shows of Bjørn Svin's natural talent for making really good experimental and melodic techno/house. It has an optimistic vibe and absolutly wonderful tunes. A track like "Søde"(Sweet/Sweety in english) just builds up and becomes - perfect! Søde is today considered a classic tune in danish techno. My personal favorite tune is "101 engle" (101 angels) a track born from fustration and into all those angels made out of a Roland SH 101.

The whole album is really put great together and is worth listening to for everybody that has an interest in artists like Aphex Twin, Kristian Vogel and Orlando Voorn.

Glenn Underground - Atmosfear - 09-Feb-08 09:09 AM
This record is a deephouse masterpiece album. Atomsfear has it all. The dreamy melodies, heavy basslines and acid grooves. It is pure ear-candy. Atomfear is a blend of jazz, acid, detroit techno and a million piano-chordes in one. The best thing about this record is, one can listen to as chill-out tracks. But if you blast the music through a good soundsystem it is mad party!

I consider Atmosfear a deephouse classic album from the mid 90's. Even though one can hear the old sound from now old instruments and keyboards, it is the future in spirit. If one should consider Larry Heard the king of deephouse, Glenn Underground must be the prince.

Mrs. Mimi Magick - Mimi's Utilities - 09-Oct-06 02:11 AM
This record is pure beauty, simple and fine like the net of a spider. There is a sudden naive tone in the music, wich reminds me of kids looking curious at the world. At the same time the record has a spooky shaddow with its deep dark basslines. The combination of the bass with light crisp clear piano makes it sound like fairytale. Like when walking in a wild forest during sunshine. Mimi's Utilities is Mrs. Mimi Magick only solo record, and what a debut! According to Irdials homepage, Mrs. Magick will be making more records when her children grow up.
