Round Three Feat. Tikiman - Acting Crazy - 19-Nov-08 02:16 PM
Definitely the weakest of the Main Street Records releases. Tries to strike a balance between the deep house feel of "Im Your Brother" and "New Day" and the syrupy dub ambient of "Na Fe Throw It" and lacks the effectiveness of both. Whats left is mediocre - the hi-hat is trying too hard, the vocals go nowhere, and the pace is lethargic. Not for me, but definitely check out "Im Your Brother" and "Na Fe Throw It".

Basic Channel - BCD-2 - 02-Nov-08 05:54 AM
After almost crashing twice while listening to this in my car, I have realized that Oswald and Ernestus have created a work that is almost TOO engaging. While I was driving I kept feeling the musics hypnotic 4/4 pull, and before I knew it my tires were screeching as I braked frantically to not hit the car in front of me. I find this work even more interesting (and dangerous!) than the original BCD - it is more accessible, more aggressive, and more danceable. With BCD and BCD2, Basic Channel have cemented their place as the kings and fathers of dub techno - always imitated, never equaled.

o9 - Symbol Sickness - 17-Jul-08 07:39 PM
Man, its such a shame this was never released. o9 here again shows his incredible programming skills, starting off the EP with a take on squarepushers jazz and bass - except its better than even some of the finest moments of Hard Normal Daddy. the next song is a fuzzed-out, volume to the max drum and bass with lots of spacey ambience and copped up amens. The final two tracks are a lot more ambient and atmospheric, but they arent as engaging as the first two. Excellent work, this guy is a genius...

Autechre - Anvil Vapre - 16-Jan-08 01:29 PM
Something, some kind of machine, more vast than oceans, advancing slowly towards you but moving at two speeds simultaneously... you hear it in the distance first, the fast, repetitive rhythm of its tiny parts clicking perfectly on time, its cold, metallic sirens calling you and drawing you closer, then it takes its first step. the tiny parts keep spinning as the machine steps in a hypnotic, uneasy, yet still robotic rhythm. More distant warning signals join the collage as it draws closer... you grow more and more unsteady as the massive object comes too close for comfort. But faster than it took to arrive, it leaves, leaving you in a hazy wash of gray metallic reverb...

At least thats what I see when I listen to "Second Peng." My favorite autechre song and release, I think.

Sublight Records - 13-Jul-07 12:30 PM
Sublight Records is an insult to IDM fans worldwide. Nothing (and by that I mean close to nothing) about this label is forward-thinking at all. I cant believe this label gets away with pressing 30-minute half-assed so-called "Mini-Albums" that they still sell for $17. And the album liner notes are always a single sheet of paper to boot. I think Ive bought four Sublight Releases, three of which I wouldnt mind getting my money back for, especially The Flashbulb - Flexing Habitual and Datachi - The Elements. Ive listened to a lot more, though, and I can say that most of this stuff is rehashed or already too old.

Please dont support this label. It lets artists get away with 30 minute pieces of crap that wouldnt be passable by most respected labels standards.
