Clark* - Body Riddle - 02-Feb-07 12:00 PM
This is easily Clark's most accessible work. While I am a huge fan of his, and like pretty much every track he's released so far, many people who I attempt to "turn on" to his music find it a little too electronic, glitchy, maybe even hectic. Body Riddle, however, has a healthy dosage of live drums and analog samples that make it more organic and universally likable.

Ted is the track that seems to be garnering the most attention, and for good reason. However, The Autumnal Crush is easily my favorite track. It's chock-full of emotion, near tear-inducing, yet it doesn't accomplish this through the commonly-used method of melancholy cello or piano lines. It does so with a simple repeated synth melody, a live drum riff and the swirling sounds of an autumn wind storm. It's simply spine-chilling.

Best album of 2006, or ever as far as I'm concerned.

Venetian Snares - 04-Nov-06 02:57 PM
I hate to be a sourpuss, but I think it must be known that while many do like Aaron Funk's "music" there are many of us who are profoundly confused and irritated by it. I, for one, really don't get what all the hype is about. His music is absurdly one-dimensional and devoid of any true emotion or musicianship. It's like when he makes songs he thinks "let's make this as fast and intense as humanly possible" but he doesn't give much thought to anything else. The product is a song that is fast, sure, but that's about all it has going for it.

You have to wonder why he's able to release so many albums so quickly. Is it because he does nothing but make music every waking hour of his life, or is it because he's just half-assing the job and trying to make as much money as he can? I'm sure it's a median between the two, but I'll take an album that took a few years to make over one that took a few months to make any day of the week.

This is all, of course, my opinion. He obviously has a huge following, but if you ask me, there are many musicians out there who are far worthier of your time and money.

Hawerchuk - Four Messengers - 28-Oct-06 04:50 AM
Well, the good news is that both of the tracks on this release are better than Camel Toe. The bad news is that neither of them are anywhere near as good as Caned Pees. Both of the tracks on here are relatively boring in comparison to it, but of the two I find Mr. Leotardo to be the best. It has a more prominent melody and the vocal samples are more interesting. Overall, this is a good release but not as extraordinary as I was hoping it would be.

Frog Pocket - Gonglot - 20-Aug-06 08:41 AM
Amazing album, in my top 5 all time favorites. Very celtic-sounding. His melodies really do, as someone else said, take me to another place. I get images of forests and lush, green hills. Many favorite tracks on here: Carac Cyls, Oben, Plinty, Hurrah Sapphire Moon!, Eyewarm and Celebrimbor Tur-Anion. The whole release is just solid and very listenable. Highly recommended.

Hawerchuk - Camel Toe / Caned Pees - 09-Jun-06 07:17 AM
Camel Toe is a cheesy, annoying track in my opinion. However, Caned Pees more than makes up for it with its climactic melody, sharp beats and incomprehensibly cool vocals. I can't wait to hear more from Mr. Hawerchuk.
