Arkan - Hilal - 05-Aug-08 04:53 PM
I was very hyped to hear this release unfortunetly it did not live up to the artwork design and digipack concept. Other than the elegance of the packaging, the music was pure death metal. Personal preference is black metal so it's a given I wouldn't enjoy it very much. However the positive to this Cd was the Arabic vocals by both male and female, and the tracks that were based purely on Arabic themed music like track 4. All in all this was your average death metal CD, nothing too fascinating. However, I look forward to their next release since there are not many in this genre.

Equimanthorn - Second Sephira Cella - 20-Apr-08 05:29 PM
This CD was not what I had expected it to be. The CD started at my dislike with the first two tracks just being a drag to listen to, until track three arrived and the music picked up with oriental influences leading into the next track. After track three the CD was completely solid, the oriental influences reached a peak at track eleven and ended off great at track twelve with amazing orient sounds to the music. I was not expecting nor knew about this CD containing oriental flavour, but its simply mind blowing the way ambient was incorporated with the middle eastern theme to the music. This CD is a must.

Rajna - The Door Of Serenity - 23-Mar-08 07:48 PM
The music has its oriental/middle eastern sounds to it. The music itself travels among many genres of music, but maintains a steady flow in the ambient genre. There are many traditional intrsuments used, I beleive the Oud most prominently. The artwork is great, and the title is rightfully chosen as it is very "serene" music. The tracks sounds vary greatly from each track to the next. The CD was released by the same label that has also released Orphaned Land, another prominent middle eastern/oriental folk metal band.

Odious - Mirror Of Vibrations - 29-Feb-08 12:56 PM
Amazing CD from start to finish. The best collaboration between folk music from the middle east with metal. Although Orphaned Land and a host of other Israeli bands that are known in the area have established themselves, these guys (Odious) are outstanding. In personal taste, I would say I enjoy Odious more than Orphaned Land- but one thing I like more about Orphaned Land compared to Odious is the fact that I am not a big fan of the vocals by Odious (death metal influences). I prefer the singing vocals of Orphaned Land's Kobi Farhi, but the music of Odious is more preferrable. If you listen to track 8 by Odious, at about the 3-minute mark there is a short arabic vocals usage, only if they had incorporated more would they have completely blown my mind. This band is to have a second release due in 2008, and it should be even better. Odious keeps the traditional touches of middle eastern folk music in all their tracks, the lyrics could have been better too but they were OK for a first CD.

Shiva In Exile - Ethnic - 01-Feb-08 08:44 PM
Odysseia, a strong intro on this CD. Amazing song to start off the CD. The song is an actual traditional Pakistani song - in Urdu in Pakistani dialect. Skipping an unfavourite track (2). Track 3 known as "dragon dance" is in Arabic, very nice song with traditional belly dance elements to the music like the first track. The girls voice is amazing, and it is confirmed to be another traditional song. Other notable songs on this CD include Ethnosphere, Nomad, Nightheat, Manju and Oriental Distortion all having middle eastern, pakistani, and I suppose Indian (manju) influences. Overall, this can be used as normal belly dance music, and does not necessarily have to be classified as "gothic" belly dance although it does contain these elements of atmospheric/ambient goth.
