Voltaire - Ooky Spooky - 06-Nov-07 12:26 PM
Compared to Voltaire's usual output, one can't help but wonder how this album sounds so - stale. Okay, there were several mediocre tracks on each of his full-lengths, but the stellar pieces - each album had some of those to offer - easily made the listener forget them.

Until now. The songwriting still is there, but what's missing is the raw energy. On an album that has several latin-influenced tracks, it's an unforgivable mistake. Bringing on board someone who actually had an experience in producing traditional latin music (if only to make fun of his suggestions) would certainly have benefitted this material.

Even the kind of neat tracks "Cantina" and "Hell In A Handbasket" sound overproduced and boring on this disc compared to the rawer, but better versions on the preceding EP "Zombie Prostitute", while the Spanish version of "Day Of The Dead" easily overshadows the English version on this one - making the EP a better buy on all counts.

Witt* / Heppner* - Die Flut - 12-Sep-07 11:31 AM
This single off Witt's Bayreuth Eins is decent in its own right - though adds nearly nothing to what you can experience on the album itself. The title duet is presented in two nearly identical versions, and the single also carries another album track. What makes it spectacular, however, is the track 'Twelve' sung by Peter Heppner - a celtic traditional-influenced number in Peter's unmistakeable bittersweet style. This is one of those forgotten B-side wonders that make collecting singles worthwhile.

Dive vs. Diskonnekted - Frozen - 22-Dec-06 02:20 AM
I have quite mixed feelings about this EP. On the one hand, the original tracks are top-notch, and are welcome listens anytime (especially Do You Believe It?); on the other hand, the remixes (however much I respect their makers individually) really detract from the experience, so much that I'd gladly pay for a limited edition release WITHOUT the remixes.

Sabotage Q.C.Q.C.? - Goddess - 11-Oct-06 04:22 AM
This cd single, containing edited and re-worked versions of tracks off Sexploitation Cinema, shows a more dancefloor-friendly side of Sabotage Q.C.Q.C., comparable to the works of Die Form or Front 242's later output. Pulsing, beats, female vocals, and a nice sound overall, thanks to the able people in the production line-up.

As the credits don't indicate the feel of the versions properly, a track-by-track run-down:
1. A more powerful version than the one on the album, shortened by 20 seconds. Should have been named a Club Mix or something like that.
2. Longer than the version on Deutscher Herbst '77, and stand-alone, as opposed to the version on Sexploitation Cinema; an ambient take on the song, but still enjoyable.
3. Totally different from the version on Sexploitation Cinema, this has a mad dancefloor appeal to it. Possibly the highlight of the single, if you can stand the pan-flute-like samples added; I certainly can.
4. A rework by the original studio line-up, this one's different (but not much) from the original.

DavaNtage - Split And Shatter - 16-Sep-06 01:22 AM
2006's Split And Shatter, the first davaNtage album without Kay Härtel, walks a fine line between two fashionable trends: it has the stomping beats of the ever-fashionable dark electro genre, but has spoken-sung vocals, courtesy of Beam, which add a rather futurepop-like appeal to the amalgam (though it's not the stock over-treated stuff you may expect). The strange part is that these two elements merge seemlessly, making up a familiar sound with a unique flavor. If I had to choose a highlight, that would be Crazy Gray Warning. Recommended.
