Convextion - Convextion - 21-Jan-07 05:23 PM
I have tried to write about this album, numerous times but the words always escape me. If you looked up the word, "deep" meant in reference to sound, (sonorous) or rich body of musical composition you would find this album listed somewhere in that definition. This album has so much hidden depth somewhere beneath the surface most people choose to ignore. I hate to use any comparisons as most people choose to, as it makes the artist sound cheap and the recordings that of second rate new comer. That is not the case by any means with Convextion, this album in particular (as in most of his work) has something entirely unique an underlying depth 100,000 feet beyond the normal sonic threshold. I choose to believe artist like Derrick May, Juan Atkins & Carl Craig wouldnt have supported Convextions material and lisenced it 10 times over, if he werent anything but innovative, expressive and full of heart. It is also my opinion this album has all the character, richness and body Juan Atkins had in his Infiniti and Model 500 (think starlight) days, when he was pioneering the future sound of Detroit. If imitation is the sincerest flattery then I am sure Juan Atkins or Derrick May would have no problem supporting this album. I always hear the reference to Basic Channel, I have listened to this album for months even before release (thanks gerard!) and i still dont understand why people keep making the reference to them? Have you listened to basic channel?? Not sure where it is on here, I would tie it more closely to Juan, as you know, Jazz is the teacher.... I give this album 10 stars and couldnt recommend it more to the world, its not HYPE, its just GOOD!
Mathew Jonson - Decompression EP - 30-Jan-05 01:26 PM
I have to say for the moment Mr. Jonson can do no wrong. His SH101 tuned basslines almost gives this a modular system feeling like it was produced on an early moog. These bass tones dominate most of his production and simply put, "I am addicted!" From his amazing "typerope" release on Spencers west coast, "It is what it is" label this release proves to be a step forward. "As I think with most of his releases, they are well worth every penny!" - soultek
Unai - 22-Sep-04 05:41 AM
If I only I could find the words to describe the sheer talent behind the music of unai, but the words escape me. Every influence I have had in the course of my life can be found in the genious of his music. From his stellar disco pop appeal in his force tracks releases, to his thoughful compositions in his I: projects, there are always common elements, love, passion & heart. This is one producer who is certain to impress us all with his unique approach to dub influenced music. I have to say Mr. Unai, "I Like Your Style!".... Expect his contagious music to be infecting us all one day soon..
Luomo - 15-Sep-04 02:11 AM
By far one of my favorite producers and greatest inspiration in years. From the minds that brought us Basic Channel & Chain Reaction, they gave a home to this brilliant mind, wandering somewhere through the dub heavens, this inventor & pioneer of a sound we now refer to as "microhouse" has changed my thinking and forever touched my heart with his truly genious productions. With the creation of his "luomo" project on forcetracks, this is just a sheer reflection of his musical mindset w/proper usage of jazz (and not a boring lounge act form, truly unique) & rasta motifs (reminding me more of Jamaica than Finland!) to his refined "Pop House" sound we here on "The Present Lover" house with hidden dimensions & the sweetest vocal work since the inception of "Prince"! Keep em coming, Delay! Cheers, s
