Julian Liberator - Funky - 11-Jun-08 05:28 PM
This for me was the best Techno record of 2007, the original does nothing for me but the Alex Calver remix is an absolute beast, I've even heard that he himself thinks it's the best remix he's done. It's the best off all worlds, hard but not Shranz, funky but not House and relentlessly energetic. The chopped up Funkytown sample (Lipps, Inc.) sounds like it was made for this record. I cannot express how urgent it is you go and buy this if you haven't already, I've already worn out one copy (It's ok, got 4 in reserve!).

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends - 22-Feb-08 07:53 AM
This release is utter genius. Fact. Rather than get other artists to remix the track LCD got other artists to cover it and record their own versions. I intially bought it for the Franz Ferdinand version, but the John Cale take is on another level, it's very similar in sound to earlier Joy Division material like Atmosphere. Everything about it, the drums, keyboard and his vocals effortlessly take you back to the days of New Wave. I didn't think I'd ever hear any new material like this.

BootINC Presents Muse / Prodigy, The & Enya - Knights Of Cydonia / Smack My Enya Up! - 28-Jan-08 03:08 AM
I'm not quite sure what to make of this release. At a first listen it's quite good, vocal sample from the Muse track chopped up quite nicely and a nice bassline after the break and an overall well produced track. Then you listen to the Future Funk Squad remix on Hacker and realise that much of the bassline and some other elements of the track (not to mention the idea itself!) for this release were lifted wholesale from it. On the b-side is the bizzare mash up of Enya and The Prodigy, but even this has been lifted beat for beat from an old release 'Prodigy - The Remixes Vol. 1' and recycled onto this record. All in all it's a pretty lazy release really.

Devendra Banhart - 04-Oct-07 09:05 AM
Devendra Banhart is one of the most talented artists alive today. He's released a fair few albums, both solo and other projects in a relatively short space of time and has managed to keep on sounding fresh and bring something new to the table every time. For those who don't know him he's the artist behind 'Little Yellow Spider' used on a recent Orange advert. If you haven't heard him yet and like Jose Gonzalez, Jeffrey Lewis or Sufjan Stevens give him a try, you'll never look back.

Airscape - L'Esperanza (Armin van Buuren's Rising Star Mix) - 22-Sep-07 01:36 AM
I will never in my lifetime understand why this remix never saw a full commercial release. It was produced by Armin when he was at the top of his game and is without any shadow of doubt the best trance record ever produced. Ever. The build up is so good it's almost better than after the breakdown, just keeps going and going adding new layers and helped along by the echoed female vocal sample saying l'esperanza. It's got the balance of energy and uplifting just right, and it's also over 11 minutes long but never drags like some 'epic' productions. I don't think I've ever listend to this and not had my mood lifted.
