Delerium - Chimera Jan 25, 2004
I was terribly disappointed with this album. Of course I didn't expect another Karma or Semantic Spaces, but Chimera turned out to be an album full of mediocre melodies and beats with female vocals I can do without (why do many people think it's an essential ingredient anyway)?. The only reason I bought this is for the 2nd cd with the Rank 1 remix of Underwater and the video clips.
While Disc 2 is excellent, it has two major faults. The tracks have been cut up incorrectly!!! For example the 2nd track starts right in the middle of the 2nd song. Oh well, I ended making my own cd (rip the whole cd into 1 mp3 and cut up the tracks myself). The other fault is that Teleport 2003 jumps a bit. I'm not sure if the 2nd cd was Martin Freeland's fault or not but it sure annoyed me.
Evoke* - Arms Of Loren Oct 21, 2003
I first heard this track from "Trance Nation 2002" and I fell in love with it the moment I heard it! So I got out as soon as possible and hoped that my favourite record store (Central Station Records in Oxford St.) had it, and I was absolutely overjoyed to find that they had imported it! I didn't care about the price tag (it's a cd single but it cost an absurd $20AU, 4 times more than what it should) because that's how much I love this remix! There is a very melodic, haunting feel to this remix and is probably even better than Ferry's remix of "Barber's Adagio For Strings" by William Orbit. I'm not fond of the Tranquillo mix, because it is rather boring, even for a chill track, but I'd give this cd a rating of 5 anyway.
I would be happier if the ATB remixes were removed and replaced with the full original ambient mix of Adagio For Strings. In my opinion, the ATB mix is horrible and totally wrecks the masterpiece that is Barber's Adagio For Strings. But this cd contains the Ferry Corsten mix, the trance classic which everyone should hear at least once! Otherwise, they're missing out. This mix is enough reason to give this a 4. This remix is also probably Ferry's best work to date along with his way underrated remix of Arms Of Loren by Evoke.
Seal - Get It Together Oct 21, 2003
This cd contains excellent house music. The best mixes are the mixes by Roy Davis Jr., Superchumbo and Bill Hamel. They all give the track the uplifting house groove that this song deserves. The worst remix happens to be Peter Rauhofer's mix. Like a lot of high profile mixers (e.g. Junior Vasquez, Thunderpuss etc.), Rauhofer can make the best remixes and the crappiest remixes of all time (just listen to his mixes for Yoko Ono's "Walking On Thin Ice" for example, they're absolutely yuck!). I'm guessing that they're all so egotistic that they become lazy and complacent or something.

Anyway, this cd is an excellent item if you like house, because this cd is house at its absolute best!
The mixes on this cd by HQ2 are probably the best remixes the duo have ever made! The club mix has the typical HQ2 vibe and energy we've grown to recognize and love except with a lot more vibe and energy (think "Tamia - Stranger In My House (HQ2 Remix)" + Kosheen - Hide U ("John Creamer And Stephane K Remix)", while the vibe mix has a retro-disco feel to it and uses the "Backstabbers" bassline of the original mix. This cd also contains an excellent garage house remix of Brotha by Spen And Karizma and another remix of WIDMY by the Poundboys. Fabulous! ;)
Thunderpuss is known for making either really great mixes or mixes which absolutely suck. The mixes for Amber's "The Need To Be Naked" show Barry Harris and Chris Cox at their best, claiming the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play #1 position with this thumper of a track. The radio edit has a bit more synths added to it than the Stripped mix, making it a bit more radio friendly.
