Black Velvet - 10-Jan-09 05:20 AM
A Great compilation, another classic in the Black Velvet series.

These EP's quickly came to be legendary as they sourced the Original White Labels mixes for these 12"'s, later when the majors came along they got edited or later remade versions. Artists frequently losing the master tape in the time since and having to knock up a new version double quick.
So these are the gems!

Unfortunately they suffered from poor distribution as we have found it very difficult to source them for our shop. As for the quality, well, no problems at all - it does play well and if you have a crap system then anything will sound crap.
This much is obvious.

Anyone looking for Digital quality versions are fooling themselves, bear in mind the originals were mostly recorded on bedroom equipment long before home studios became standard.

Blue Velvet (2) - 09-Sep-08 12:28 PM
Seminal British Label that kick started scouse house with its rare compilations. Very localised - barely a handful ever came out.

Utilising the sounds of Euro House, Piano, Girly Vocal and other Cheesey Italian style tracks that, all together, became what is now known as 'Scouse House'. The sound which developed into a chart phenomenon, spawning over a hundred new record labels and thousands of releases.

For the 1990's in Liverpool, this small label was the equivalent of The Cavern in the 1960's.

K-Klass - Rhythm Is A Mystery - 09-Apr-08 06:13 AM
This is one of those classic records with other tracks on it that have been totally dwarfed by the lead track, even though that lead track was famous for its remix on a different record!

So skipping the formalities, you should head straight for track B2.
Manchester's Creed and FRO were well known for bringing over Euro Techno tracks so there can be no surprise when they bring up new talent like K Klass, who develop a similar sound. The track mentioned is a wonderfully atmospheric gasp, nodding politely to the Orb and taking in samples off vaguely familiar adverts, this belies a subtle aggression which pins down the Euro House sound of the time and elevates it to something quite beautiful.

A Great compilation, we have seen this before and we have got to say it is one the best and rarest in the legendary black velvet series. As far as we know this was the last one to come out and so suffered from poor distribution as we now find it very difficult to source. As for the quality, well, no problems at all - it does play well and if you have a crap system then anything will sound crap.
This much is obvious.
