Apparat - Duplex - 13-Sep-03 03:44 AM
Shitkatapult co-chief Sascha Ring emerges with his third full-length that really does hit the jackpot, reaching into new soundscapes, and partakes in the recent sex between acoustics and electronics. "Duplex" is poetic and so absorbing, steering a symphonic cakewalk blitz through your emotions, bypassing the mundane and empty laptop sounds of a majority of recent electronic music. Organs droning away, wailing distorted horns and shuffled thump beats over twelve beautiful tracks.

Various - New Deutsch - 09-Sep-03 01:24 PM
"New Deutsch" is compiled by Thomas Bar and DJ Hell, and documents the variety of the first explosion of synthetic music from Germany in the early eighties, from the small production editions of indie singles beside big chart hits. The influence of these early classics is apparent in all aspects of dance music 2003... a treasure trove of long out-of-print gems from Der Plan, Stratis, Weltklang, No More, Pyrolator, Za Za, Echowest and more."

Tomas Andersson - Rock Acid - 28-Aug-03 10:51 AM
Bpitch Control can add another flag to their global map with the import of the Swede Tomas Andersson. What a find he is, both sides are a glorious electro-techno hybrid brimming with fresh ideas. Recommended!

Emperor Machine, The - Pro Mars / SH3A - 22-Jul-03 12:12 PM
The debut release from The Emperor Machine introduces the ever-prolific Andy Meecham (on half of Big Two Hundred/Chicken Lips) under yet another pseudonym. Swapping the live sound of Big 200 in favour of pure analogue synthesis, each track is produced entirely on one vintage keyboard (A1: the Roland Pro Mars and B1: the Roland SH3A) demonstrating the dexterity of its creator. "Pro Mars" is reminiscent of Andys work under the Sir Drew moniker (King Size) but reflects a more period flavour, evoking memories of the arpeggio driven soundtrack to John Carpenters "Assault On Precinct 12". The cinematic theme continues onto the B-side as a multitude of heavily filtered, interwoven rhythms carry the melodic, 80s Sci-Fi-esque sounds of "SH3A". This release marks another twist in an already diverse musical career for Mr Meecham.
