Big Ben Tribe - Tarzan Loves The Summer Nights - 12-Sep-08 04:42 PM
I agree that this is a great record - I can explain why it sounds like a love song too - the lyrics are about a woman who has a romantic/sexual fantasy about living in the jungle with a handsome and brave Tarzan. It's almost a shame how rare this record is - it's hard to find in good quality even in mp3. Hopefully someone will take the initiative and compile it on a CD someday soon, but as the I Love Disco Diamonds series from Blanco Y Negro now seems to have ended, god knows who will be up to the challenge!
Eros Ramazzotti - Dove C'è Musica - 21-Jul-08 02:56 AM
I guess you kind of know what to expect with an Eros Ramazzotti album but when I got this one I was actually quite shocked (my first two were Stilelibero and Eros, if only I could find them now!) Most of it is Eros trademark unique vocals and classy pop rock but the real surprise is in track 9, Yo Sin Ti, surely one of the most beautiful latin songs I ever heard. It's sung in Spanish, even on this Italian language version of the album and although I don't know enough about latin music to say what exact style it is, it has a really warm, summery vibe that makes it perfect listening at this time of year, even in rainy old England. Put Yo Sin Ti on repeat, mix yourself a Daquiri, and serve chilled.
Syntax (4) - Pray - 17-Jul-08 12:58 AM
This release deserved much more success than it achieved. It reminds me of a mixture of Donna Summer's I Feel Love (the rolling bassline and keys) and Leftfield/Lydon's Open Up (the dark vibe and menacing vocals). The Junkie XL remix isn't bad (he had to have something to have been allowed to remix Elvis Presley at about the same time). The original mixes are much superior though. I'm not really familiar with Fluke's work, and I don't have the album, but I'd love to hear it...
Madcon - Beggin - 10-Jul-08 09:15 AM
The original title of this song is, actually, Beggin'. Yes it is a Frankie Valli cover but a very good one. Madcon's vocals are soulful, and although I wouldn't say I was a massive hip-hop connoiseur the rap is professional and catchy and (if this isn't too patronising) sounds like it was written and performed by native speakers of English, which I believe the group aren't. Probably the inspiration for the track was the Pilooski re-edit of the original Frankie Valli version that was a minor UK hit last year, and this version is about to be released in the UK too, and should chart highly, well-deservedly too in my opinion.
Phil Trim - Give Me Your Love - 13-May-08 05:33 AM
Classic euro style record, something like a male verion of Lay Love On You by Luisa Fernandez. Not for everyone, and not really underground in any way shape or form, but a fun little record for people with a high tolerance of cheese. Mr. Trim was the original singer of the Pop Tops, one of Spain's most popular groups of the late 60s and early 70s, responsible for worldwide hit Mamy Blue and the supremely beautiful Oh Lord, Why Lord, so soulful that it was covered by Parliament on their debut 1970 LP Osmium.
