Profile: my deepest passion is for music and i confess that it's @ least 90% of why i bother getting up each day, to embrace what is to my senses anyhow, an otherwise bleak canvas. i have been a "house-head" since 1986-ish and @ that time i also 'fell in love' w/ a then blossoming techno and, electronic music in general, in all (ok most) of it's glorious variants. i'm equally passionate about music from the Medieval era and all periods that followed up to 21st century composition. i'm not crazy about serialism or text-book definition "12-tone" music typically, but 20th
century music (wrongly referred to as "classical" or "modern c.") in general is very
important and dear to me.

my top 20 "can't live w/o's" in no particular order:

Larry Heard (Mr. Fingers)
Bela Bartok
Alan Hovhaness
Boards of Canada
Kerri Chandler
Sergei Prokofiev
J.S. Bach
Paul Hindemith
Plaid
Squarepusher
Arnold Rosner
Ralph Vaughan Williams
Autechre
Debussy
Palestrina
Kraftwerk
Beethoven (sonatas & string quartets esp!!)
Joey Beltram
Roger Sanchez (circa Nu Groove, StrictlyRth.)
L.F.O.

(damn...my profile is too tedious already and i just realized there's 20 err 2000 or so artists at least whom i'd like to squeeze into the list of "top 20"- lol that's frustrating)
Reviews & Discussion:

Talk about an obscure record! The Loft On Broadway e.p. deserves mention as it's one of the strangest deep
house records i've ever heard; in fact it's hard to describe
really- there are fun, irregular beat patterns, bizarre synth-y noises that are, well, primitive- and just an all
around atmosphere of weirdness. "Pack My Bags" for example
has that very line repeated relentlessly- "Pack My Bags, Pack My Bags...pack pack pack my bags, pack my bags etc..."
along w/ some truly unexpected aural happenings- and it's just soo odd, in a wonderful way :-)

a novelty and indeed 1-of-a-kind! ~Tzadik
This is an absolutely sublime record, indeed one of the
finest "disco-house" (this term is often thrown around,
but during this period (early 90's) such records were exactly that- a perfect synchronization of styles from particular periods in dance music; and done very, very tastefully- especially w/ respect to the original material/inspiration)This is one of my favorite 12"'s
of all time, and the inspirational "feel good" atmosphere that pervades throughout is almost overwhelming!

a true classic, although is was something of a "sleeper"
record @ the time in New York; i recall buying the copy
that Dance Tracks had in stock- then after spinning it,
i had friends running like mad to find copies of it, and
indeed to this day only 1 other person from that group was
rewarded. sometimes such greatness is overlooked, but it's
really due to distribution etc., for as i mentioned, Barrio
de Bajo is pure gold. ~Tzadik
One of Kerri's finest instrumental records of all time,
this Shelter records release is c-l-a-s-s-i-c and priceless if you are a fan of the deep Jersey sound in general and also beyond essential if u r a fan of KC and superior house music production in particular. I bought 2 copies of "Atmosphere"(e.p.) the day it came out, and i'm still smiling years later. you can merely spin both 12" together for 30 minutes and still want more! it's that good.
every track is superb, and i love the "oldschool" feeling
Kerri injected throughout; and i mean KC's own brand of oldschool, w/ traces of his "Can't Get Over It" (Dee Dee Brave)quite apparent on 1 track as an example. LOVELY!!
