Bracken - We Know About The Need May 29, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
When I purchased this album I was just out exploring different types of music. In need of a temporary electronica break I picked this album up. At first it took awhile to get use to, about 3 listens. After that I realized just how talented this group is. Very mystical and dreamy vocals make this album worth every penny.
Bright Eyes - Cassadaga May 10, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
this album is purely amazing. oberst is really starting to mature as a musician and his lyrics have grown more and more profound. this album has a little more of a country feel than some of hos other albums but bright eyes is still bright, extremely unique and extremely talented.
Pink Floyd Mar 05, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
The beauty of Pink Floyd is found in the mystery of the bands history as well as music. From the mysterious disapearence of the bands founder Syd Barrett to the deep dark interpretive meanings in their lyrics the band has always lived a life clothed in the darkness and the secrets of the bands past. Pink Floyd will always be remembered for being one of the most influential bands of all time and of course for their musical contribution of Dark Side of the Moon, but the true beauty of their music is found in their less popular albums such as "The Final Cut", a story album that is almost a sequel to the bands second biggest album "The Wall", discuses the untimely death of Roger Waters father in a trench in Anzio during WWII. Opnions on corrupt govenment are found in almost every album, but have to be unearthed from the storys they tell. These parables bring about the inequalities of government and the influences of human nature on daily life.
Paul van Dyk - Reflections Feb 17, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
Purely amazing... nothing else can really be said. Van Dyk uses an almost Moby-esque mixing style, but my opinion much better and more danceable. World beat instruments and nature effects are used throughout the album to really give this album a unique feeling. I can seriously see why Paul Van Dyk is DJ Mags number one DJ.
Tom Waits Feb 16, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
Tom Waits... not much you can say about Tom Waits, except that his lyrics are amazing and his use of interesting uncommon instruments is genious. While his voice is not for everyone, he should be checked out just for his musical talent. Mule Variations is a very good begginer Tom Waits album, for those who have not completely learned how to digest Tom Waits unmistakeable musical techniques.
Blues Traveler - Four Feb 16, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
John Popper is amazing. His harmonica talent is second to none and extremely innovative. Ask someone if they have ever heard of Blues Traveler and they will probably say "no" but play them "Run-Around" or "Hook" they will probably say "I know that song" and become hooked (no pun intended). Their music is amazingly uplifting and catchy and I would reccomend this album to anyone who has any interest in music.
Cake - Pressure Chief Feb 16, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
I bought this album based on the uniqueness of their sound. While the use of trumpets and a almost reggae feel to their music is very interesting, the lyrics and vocals after the song "Wheels" get really dry and repetitive. Overall fairly catchy but not for anyone who expects deep insightful thought provoking material.
Basement Jaxx - The Singles (Special Edition) Feb 15, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
This is quite possibly the most fun music I have ever heard. The amazing beats mixed with the African American voices on many of their songs are a very very interesting and amazing mix. These guys defined progressive house and this album proves that. The extra CD is an amazing addition containing many unreleased songs and acoustic versions and remixes of some of their hits. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Feb 14, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
This album is quite possibly one of Pink FLoyd's most stripped down, emotional albums. Dedicated to the former member Syd Barrett who was kicked out of the band due to increased dimentia, one of the side effects of his constant LSD use. This album unlocks some of the mysterys of the now deceased member. The tribute album, quite possibly Pink Floyds only one (except possibly The Final Cut, believed to be the story of Roger Waters fathers death in WW2). This album was my fist Pink Floyd album and ever since I have been proudly dubbed a Pink Floyd geek. The band is amazing and this album does everything to show why Pink Floyd is quite possibly if not the most well known and highly respected bands in musical history.
Tool (2) - 10,000 Days Feb 08, 2007 (edited over 5 years ago)
Tool is quite possibly one of the greatest "thinking man bands" of the time. There musical talent is far beyond most of todays common pop bands. Keenans voice is completely distinct from any other voices of the time, and portrays an atitude of insanity quite possibly only compareable to Pink Floyd's Roger Waters. 10,000 Days, being my first Tool experience, will always be to me the greatest album by Tool. The story line is completely insane and dark. There music varies between heavy metal Metallica esque sounds such as Vicarious and Jambi and the use of disturbing sound effects and chants such as in Lipan Conjuring. The album starts out having the feeling of a fairly talented and catchy heavy metal band. As you continue into the album the albums breaks down into an extremely addicting musical journey. The rise and falls in the bands volume made me jump. The use of the thuderstorm sound effects caught me off guard making me realize that this is no average metal band. As the album nears the end it breaks down into complete craziness and finnaly end with the sounds effects of a machine. Overall I would say that Tool, especially in this album, is bringing talent and uniqueness back into popular music.
