Neophyte - Rechtoe Rechtaan - 29-Aug-06 01:21 PM
As much as I like this release - especially when I consider that Neophyte is still around after all those years - I have one big problem with it: there's too little "music" in total.

The tracks are all build-up and no payoff. Some of them take forever to establish the main melody after INSANELY long breaks (most notably Bottom's up, Put it to music, Recht uit de ondergrond and the Stunned Guys remix of I will have that power), and then don't deliver the goods, because the ending has been initiated already, which allows only 20-30 seconds of the tracks core in 5:30 minutes. When I hear music like this, it takes more than a few seconds to actually enjoy what I hear, and then being disappointed because another break interrupts the flow of the tracks.

It is really a shame, because everything else on this record is perfectly fine with me, and I'd love to have this with more content in the tracks.

Fraxion - Body Snatchers - 12-Oct-04 07:01 AM
Okay, a lot of people will believe I'm crazy, as it's close to blasphemy to give a 5 rating for a 5th gear release, but I sooooo totally love this record. Mostly varying between 180 and 202 bpm, the tracks always sound great while never being cheesy, always diversify from the previous one, and manage to stay interesting through the whole album.
Only negative side: I hate albums where tracks are not in full length! Besides this, an excellent CD, and by far the best thing ever coming from 5th gear.

Core Pusher - Core Pusher Anthem - 10-Sep-04 08:51 AM
Massive pounding drums and excessive use of snares, quite different to the standard melody gabber. My favorite is "World Clash 2003", which definitely rocks the house.

Headbanger, The - Pray 4 Daylight - 01-Mar-04 03:45 AM
The problem with Rob's Headbanger style is there is no development, nothing new since his last album. Almost every track sounds similar to the previous one, the use of synthies and kickdrums he is doing for years now needs to be freshed up. This is the reason why dutch mainstyle gabber can never shake off its bad image for riding something successful to death by going the same way and doing the same thing all the time and not stepping forward. This is especially disappointing here, because there is so much potential in the tracks.
On the positive side, there are tons of movie quotes and sound clips used for the tracks, which I am a sucker for, sometimes even variations of the original movie scores into his Headbanger sounds, which results in the best tracks on this album (Shining, The One, Daywalker). And some sounds really make me want to fall deep down into the abyss and just pray for daylight.
Generally a mixed reaction on this album, solid production with some nice ideas, but too much standard and nothing new.

Kenny Gee - Full Scale Riot - 12-Jul-03 03:34 PM
You can call this "Berzerker light". Similar, but not that extreme, more straight hardcore tracks with some nice voice samples from several movies and a wonderful Benny Hill theme spoof.
