Gescom - A1-D1 - 13-Jan-08 09:42 AM
The scariest Gestalt Communications release yet. A group that never has any set agenda for style or genre, this one again (as we've only come to expect) is all over the board.
This is the Gescom release that is most like being at an amusement park you've never heard of and having some odd anamatronic characters tell you inappropriate things - not perverted things, just inappropriate things, like things that don't make any sense or were wrong for the situation.
It also doesn't feel like the normal Autechre base players were involved or at least as involved in this one. Kind of an oddball release for Gescom, if that could happen.
µ-Ziq - Urmur Bile Trax Volume 1 Volume 2 - 22-Dec-07 11:17 PM
Certainly the most Jean-Jacques Perrey-esk µ-Ziq record ever. I'm sure he's sampling the hell out of him here, but this record is much more than petty theft. It's really a milestone record from Mike because this was his first foray into the drill n bass or drum n bass style. It lead the way for his future records (most notably right off the bat, Lunatic Harness) and more importantly the way for Planet µ's future records for which it ows it's great success. Funnily enough Urmur Bile doesn't seem to get talked about as much and is largely ignored. It's always pretty easy to find in the used bins, so when you see it (and you will), pick it up because it's a worth while fiver you're spending here. I love it for tracks like "M5 Saabtone" and the "Phi* 1700 (U/V)" retake called "1 Hip 007*".
Q-Chastic - Q-Chastic - 15-Dec-07 01:05 PM
What can I say about this record? Nothing really, because it doesn't exist, and should be taken off Discogs. I would challenge any of members that claim to own it to prove otherwise. There is absolutely no evidence of it ever having existed and all anyone for 15 years has ever had to go on were made up stories and bogus MP3s. The only CAT 002 that does exist is the Q-Chastic song on ARTs Philosophy of Sound and Machine CD. This track is what occupies that Rephlex catalog number and nothing else. It is a nice song as well.
Underworld - Pearl's Girl - 02-Oct-07 07:38 AM
One of the most generous maxi singles in recent memory, providing and albums worth of material for the price of an EP. Found here are the standard remixes plus a wealth of high quality B sides.
The real gem here is "Oich Oich", a song originally found on the Tomato/Underworld video project, "Kiteless" from 1994. The standout remix (it being hardly a remix and more a new track) is "Pearl's Girl [Tin There]". Also refered to as simply "Tin There", it was most notably featured on the Wipeout XL/Wipeout 2097 video game soundtrack.
Plaid - Tekkonkinkreet (鉄コン筋クリート) O.S.T. - 27-Jun-07 10:44 PM
How good is this to hear? This album was the perfect move for Plaid to make at this point. In an interview I once conducted with Ed Handley, I asked if they had ever thought about doing any soundtracks and he said yes but it was just one of those situations where they had never been asked. Well here it is, and most certainly they were asked, and this is most certainly the answer. It is also the answer to a lot of Plaid's fan's prayers in a time where some of us where uncertain of their direction. This record is a dreamer and a believer....and no you're not spending $36.99 US for a J-pop bonus track. You're spending it on the next great Plaid album.
