Jungle DJ/Collector/Producer, east coast US.
Been hoarding vinyl since '96. And always been hooked on the '94-'95 mashup & ragga
jungle sound. The amen break changed my life ;)
I also collect and play some abstract broken beat, reggae dub/dubstep, glitch & IDM.
The more intensely mashed up, the better.

Exile* - Pro Agonist - 22-Aug-09 12:52 AM
Completely awesome.
Ive rinsed the SHIT out of the more DJ friendly tracks "Big Bad Purple Bad Boy" and "Openable Dog" in my sets for years now, and abused "Open Mike" as an intro over and over as well.
..But I also crack this album out on random nights just to listen to the abstract ones: "Sliiime", "Sure You Did", "Mushroom Santa", "Merlin"... little ditties that scratch that itch way way in the back where I cant reach.
Put together on wax, it comes together somehow and earns Tim a spot in hall of fame, really. Weird, it doesnt really have any kind of flow whatsoever... each one kinda jerks you from place to place, but each one is just crazy cool. Theres shit here or there that probably doesnt work in the grand scheme, but fuck it... Can you do any better?
Squarepusher - Numbers Lucent - 31-Mar-09 08:10 AM
Id count this as part of the Souvenir album.. Could call it Disc 2, I guess. This 12" represents the rave-ish side of things with the 4-4 & acid lines + some nice amen mish mash & other classic breaks and synth stabs.
Not quite as genius maybe, but it does mirror and then amplify the Souvenir albums intensity, especially for the breakbeat fans.
File the 2 x LP together as 1.
Squarepusher - Just A Souvenir - 31-Mar-09 07:26 AM
Tom, the 1-man band - drums, guitar, synth, engineer, mixer, master.. In this album he shoves it straight into your stupid face while youre still doubled over in joy from the last track.
Everything is well covered - drum & bass & jazz - to progressive & grunge. All in the same track even.
Take a time-out to listen through in one setting. Superb production & musical progression take it to the next level.
From the man Squarepusher, this is a timeless marvel of "where its at" now in 2009 - mind melting, genre bending music fit to wear his name.
Unknown Artist - Life Is Rollin' - 09-Jan-09 07:26 PM
Absolute gold. A near-perfect jungle record from the heyday.
Side A is loaded with classic jungle spirit .. and superbly done .. A Think-break stepper with killer female RnB vocal samples, a cool low key MC sample ("DROP the check" (which I think is actually the track name)), wicked beat edits, jungle alarm sample, and an awesome teardrop bassline.
Side B is an Amen- & Think-break masterpiece. Theres a light, washy atmospheric intro with extra spice, and then at the break, a beautiful, chill, melodic female vocal ("Rastafari"). It drops with Amens and Think in full effect - serious jungle business. It fills out with lots of great change-ups and edits and a seriously badass deep "rev" bassline.
The big deal about this record to me is how well its produced. It sounds so crisp and clear with no midrange mud, you could drop either side nowadays in a slower set, back to back new school with no effort.
F*CKIN TUNES!!
Various - Club Saturn EP - 21-Nov-08 06:12 PM
Ill have to say that "Nights" is actually the stand-out track on this EP -- really smoooooth 96 drumfunk from the one Paradox; classically chilled dnb vibes to make your mind wander. Well done.
Im a huge fan of Remarc, and I honestly only bought the record for "Virtua Cop"; unfortunately, it sounds kinda half-baked to me, and didnt get a proper mixdown IMHO. It IS a decent amen-driven track on that late-95 gangsta junglist tip (sirens n gunshots, etc.), but it just doesnt express like his other work. Tweaking the levels helps very little.
On the flip, B1 and B2 are both pretty forgettable, just run of the mill repetitive 96-style steppers. Not a whole lot of creativity there ()
