Out Of Order (2) - The Dark Sheep - 26-May-08 04:04 AM
This has to be one of my all time favourite records and all 3 tracks are sublime, 2 of them very well known and caned by DJs in the breakbeat and techno genres. The first of the well known tracks is a breakbeat tune that samples, "I will always love you" (the Whitney Houston version) and was caned by the likes of DJ SS in the early 90s.
On the other side there is a trance techno monster that starts with some very dark and moody strings from a "Simple Minds" track. These strings give way to a thundering bassline that then builds and develops into some of the most uplifting trance I have ever heard (without being cheesy) and then delivers one of the best hoovers ever to grace a techno record. This tune was played by the likes of Bass Generator and DJ Producer and delighted everyone that heard it.
Finally, there is another very good and moody breakbeat tune that has moving orchestral strings and samples, "The Silence of the Lambs" movie, in particular, Hannibal Lecter enquiring, "What happened to your lamb Clarisse".
There is another more DJ friendly version of this record but it is only more DJ friendly because it does not feature the last track discussed above. Therefore, I suppose its a case of you pays your money and takes your choice.
I am eternally grateful to Guy for getting me this record :-)
Neuromancer - Pennywise / The Unforgettable Feeling - 23-Oct-07 08:34 AM
Pennywise is an absolutely amazing track that was caned by most of the top jocks back in the early 90s, including some DJs more associated with the Techno scene. I distinctly recall Joey Beltram playing this to great effect at the Galactica rave in Ripon in 1992. For anyone unfamiliar with the tune it has a fantastically euphoric breakdown, which is supplemented by Pennywise, the infamous Clown from IT, saying, "They all float down here".
Jones & Stephenson - The First Rebirth - 19-Oct-07 07:15 AM
Totally agree with the previous reviewer's comments. This a powerhouse anthem that starts with its long epic intro. The epic intro is then perfectly supplemented with a pounding base that allows the track to build and fall in perfect melody. The strings are uplifting, without being cheesy, which is a winning combination that is so rarely achieved in my humble opinion.
This was caned by the likes of CJ Bolland at the Orbit in Leeds and still sounds fresh today.
I totally agree that the remixes on Prolekult by the likes of Red Jerry are inferior, althoogh the original version does feature (albeit the version is not as DJ friendly as the Bonzai version).
Agent Orange (5) - Sound's A Bit Flakey - 12-Oct-07 08:31 AM
The title track is a huge anthem from the early 90s that was caned by a number of the top DJs at the time. I particularly recall Carl Cox and DJ Easygroove caning this at numerous events such as the last Rezerection in the Mayfair in Newcastle. The title track is a hardcore track, with a euphoric piano melody that breaks into the infamous music from the Cadbury's Flake advert at the time. This tune's notoriety and scarcity mean that sellers can command a premium price and I have never seen it go for less than £60.
D.S.K.F. - New Science EP - 12-Oct-07 08:16 AM
This EP contains a huge piano monster that was caned by DJ Sy and Grooverider back in the early 90s. The uplifiting piano breakdown is supplemented by a female vocal, saying, "Feel the Power". This record eluded a lot of people (myself included) because of its white label status. The track features on an oldskool CD, entitled, "Rewind the Classics", which is how I found out what it was in the first place. The track also features on an oldskool bootleg but this is even more elusive than this record. The track's rarity coupled with its high demand, ensure that sellers command a premium price. There is a later record, entitled, "Skruffneck Volume 2" that samples this track, but is nowhere near as good in my opinion.
