Reviews & Discussion:

Heather Heart Oct 19, 2008
Heather Heart was essential to the early NYC rave scene mainly because of her zine, (most likely the first zine dedicated exclusively to the rave scene in NYC)"Under One Sky", as it kept us young hungry ravers well-informed and united!
There was the usual:
Record reviews, parties/events, interviews, relevent artwork, etc... but done with love with that unique Heather Heart touch (and all done in modest black & white)!
She created a lot with very little, a true artist in every sense!
Anyone who's ever met her can testify to the fact that she's one of the coolest most down to earth ppl you'll meet in your entire life.
She exudes PLUR, she's lived it from day 1.
Sade - Love Deluxe Aug 17, 2008
"Essential" barely touch the surface on how important this release is. Played at wedding receptions or the trendiest of lounges, it hardly fails to deliver a pure chilled sexy vibe that gets bodies closer, conversations down to a whisper and eye contact locked on! Smooth sultry timeless downtempo at its finest. "Cherish The Day" (as well as "No Ordinary Love" & "Kiss Of Life") could almost be described as musical foreplay. So, if anyone feels a void where COOL & SEXY should be, then look no further, you might find yourself falling in love all over again.
X-Men (10) - Breakout Apr 11, 2008
To say this is an overlooked treasure would be an understatement... very rare!
"Breakout" is a straight up breakbeat stomper with smooth piano breakdowns while "Phase 2" is emotional deep tech-house all the way... two distinct styles on one record.
If you're a fan of labels such as NU Groove, Intrigue, or Network (1990-1991 tech-house) then put this on your MUST HAVE list.
And although no information is available about the producer, "X-Men", the overall production style sounds remarkably like (Toyin Agbetu) "Nemesis"- bassline, keys, and all...
Very simple, gritty, under-produced DEEP late night house.
Got past many househeads' radar probably due the obscurity of Soiree Records in that community.
Already legendary for spawning TECHNO, Detroit also proves itself as a major player in the early to mid 1990's deep house scene.
This release alone, if nothing else, (although there's some really good deep house on Submerge and KMS, etc) easily compares and competes with better-known contemporaries NY, NJ, Chicago,(and Toronto too!).
UNDERGROUND House Music's tried and true formula comes naturally to these producers:
infectious repetitive vocal hook,
sparse but effective organ keys and bassline ,
and swing styled percussion.

key words: SIMPLE and FUNKY

Sounds very much like the Burrells' early-mid 90's releases on NU Groove & Citi Records... (if you're into that style of deep-house, I'd suggest copping this one real quick!)
Kerri "Kaoz" Chandler* - Trionisphere EP (Part 1) Jan 12, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
A pure gem from the King Street haydays...
Although the entire release is well worth its weight in gold, 2 tracks in particular that stand out are:
side B's "Keep Me Inside" and "All About Love"...
-very soulful, romanctic and even a bit melancholic-
a LOT of emotional content captured on a record...
but, best of all, it's very "mix friendly" for the Dj's out there...
Blatantly yet beautifully samples piano riff from Soft House Company's "What You Need", driving over a solid deep-key bassline, and complimented with an infectious diva vocal-hook, carried under cheerfull, floating strings. An early yet legendary Victor Simonelli solo production!
Excellent socio-conscious spoken-word delivery via smooth male vocals (Johnny Dangerous) over sweeping hi-hats, loose 808 beats, and a gloomy yet delicious, funky bassline, whilst teasing with subtle sampling off Love Committee's "Just As Long As I Got You"...
Truly a time-resistant deep house classic!
One of the better examples of "Deep" House (in all senses of the word, since it's Marine based in theme). It entices with male spoken-word poetry ,about infatuation and lust, riding over hypnoticly, sparse atmospheric keys and a cold, solid bassline. There's also beautiful effects (ocean waves, wind, and seagulls in the distance) added to enhance a feeling of flight or transcendence. A must-have for anyone with a true after-hours agenda!
Metro - $1.15 Please May 06, 2004
"Brownstone Express" seduces with a melancholic mix of warm, soothing keys and a cold, metallic bassline; an exclusive instrumental that conveys feeling far beyond words. "Straphanger" interests with lust-filled whispers (perhaps discretely directed towards an attractive female commuter on the subway) swimming under acidic, off-beat keys and exhilerating stabs of multiple strings . "Rush Hour" and "Turnstyle Turbulance" are nice pieces that smooth out and fill in between the better tracks. The title "$1.15 Please" suggests the amount the MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority)[circa 1990] asked for a standard fare.
