Basic Channel - 13-Nov-06 11:30 AM
Authors of the most genuine electronic sound.
As an older listener, I was in position to watch how electronic music scene grows and develops itself into several distinguished styles, all coming up from the same root - and that particular root was Basic Channel. Everything is here: ambient, dub, minimal, house, techno, heavy experimentation... These people are condemned to be untouchable and unrepeatable.
Listen to what you want, learn what you can - Basic Channel is the beginning of contemporary music.

Andrew Thomas - Fearsome Jewel - 19-Jun-06 05:37 AM
Expanding numberless, warm motions of human heart, "Fearsome Jewel" is like summer breeze that will draw the listener back into the earliest days of childhood, doing it always in a different way - which makes this album one of the best Kompakt releases so far. Strong atmosphere, syncopated and broken textures filled with piano strings, romantic and evocative, reveal the hidden treasure inside this repetitive simplicity. Imagine yourself in a perfect summer afternoon; sitting in the house garden full of different flowers and trees, surrounded by shimmering silence and thanksgiving joy of everything that exists in the universe... And, suddenly, you'll find yourself so happy being alive, being a part of this heavenly celebration of life which cannot be expressed by human words. "Fearsome Jewel" is one of those moments captured in time.

Tranquility Bass - Let The Freak Flag Fly - 12-Jun-06 06:56 AM
Knowing the style of Kandel's previous work, "Let the freak flag fly" sounds like it came out from nowhere. Influenced by '60s and '70s, mixed with country/folk and even some african motives, this release looks like being produced while the author was under heavy psychedelic drugs. As a narrow-minded electronica fan, I just can't put this album even in the neighbourhood of electro music. A very, very strange release.

Yagya - Will I Dream During The Process? - 12-Jun-06 05:08 AM
What a disappointment from Yagya! After almost 5 years of expectation, Gumundsson releases fake imitation of Basic Channel's minimal/dub electronica. Most of the tracks and textures are so obviously and shamelessly copied, that it deserves a court of trial! Compared to "Rhythm of Snow", this album is an absolute misfortune.

Fluxion - Vibrant Forms - 06-Dec-05 01:56 AM
"Vibrant Forms" stands much away from other Chain Reaction gems; having said that, I'm aware that many of minimal-dub-techno fans would not share my points of view. But, as a dedicated listener, I must emphasize strong, almost mathematic precision in creation of dubby environment around and inside the 'submarined' minimal beats presented by Fluxion. Great atmosphere emerges from unexplored subspaces, evolving through carefuly arranged rhythms and oscillation patterns. I like to think of it as a fusion of intelligent and emotional sides of human soul, being and showing itself as one perfectly composed structure. Just as it should be.
It may sound strange, but this release very often reminds me of GAS' "Pop" - almost the same kind of strong beatless expression being submerged in dense, heavy and sometimes unexplainable blurriness.
