Pet Shop Boys - West End - Sunglasses - 26-Oct-06 02:52 PM
This is a pretty horrible release which sounds awfully rushed together. I like the original Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart but this cover is one of many proofs that you didnt have to know how to sing to release a record in those days. There are lots of clashes between the two tracks here & sometimes it gets so disharmonic at places I wonder how it even could be considered to be released. So, why the heck did I even buy this record? The answer is to be found if you flip the record over. Here you find a pumping Hi-NRG kind of rework of one of my favourite early PSB-songs One More Chance. Naturally it all sounds very dated but I still like the cheesy overall feeling of the B-side even if it doesnt make up for the bad A-side.
Boom Generation - Summer Of Mercy / TV Death - 24-Feb-04 03:04 PM
Trivia: The sample at the beginning of "TV Death" saying "TV death which the child absorbs" is actually Jim Morrison of The Doors, slightly pitched down. It was lifted from "Lament" on the album "An American Prayer", an album which was released after Jims death including his spoken words and music composed by the other Doors members.
