Hecker - Recordings For Rephlex - 03-Apr-07 06:03 PM
A friend of mine asked me if I really liked this CD, or if I said so only for weirdness' sake. I have to say that I find this CD rather enjoyable, even if it's probably one of the most extreme in my collection. Being a science geek helps, because you'll find more interesting the booklet notes, but don't think this is only a maths exercise applied to sound design, it is also a rewarding experience.
For my musical background, if you've experienced any Mego / Raster Noton release, or if you like Merzbow / Speedranch / Guilty Connector, you can easily get through this record without harm. I would dare to say that even digging Aphex Twin's Ventolin (Wheeze mix) is a good starting point.
Hearts Of Darknesses - Music For Drunk Driving - 21-Dec-04 11:00 PM
This album is very very weird. It's only 36 mins long but if it had been longer it would be boring. It's like a blend of Otto Von Schirach beats and Speedranch vocal assault. So crazy and messy it can be very funny, but if you take it seriously you will hate it.
Matrix - Sleepwalk - 23-Jan-03 01:48 PM
This is one of the best drum'n'bass CDs i own. Well balanced between dark and jazzy, with phat breaks all over it and the Matrix' trademark huge basses. Featuring the classic 'Apache'. Matrix is known for never releasing a weak tune, so get this NOW.
End - Science/Fiction - 22-Jan-03 02:43 PM
This is one of the best electronic album released in 2002 and is very much underrated. It's quite dark stuff, with complex rhythms, heavy breaks and crackling percussions. Excellent production.
